In Win98, you do it from View->Folder Options->File Types.
That's a cool tip. I'm careful about my system, but used this trick.

I have a registry tweaker called Xteq Systems and it has an option to do
what you suggest above, but you can select it to do it for the following
file types also.
*.vbs/*.vbe
*.js/*.jse
*.wsh/*.wsf
All those file types could run a potentially damging script.
