GPL: exits in the middle of the game

by Dmitriy Cherkashi » Mon, 04 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I encounter the same problem almost every time I play GPL. In random moment
(not always in simulation, sometimes even in menus) program just exits back to
Win95 (OSR2.1) without any messages and without leaving any processes***
in the memory.

It is very dissatisfying to get bailed out just in the middle of the heat of
whatever it is - practice or race. Since there is no way to save the state of
the game (except for practice times), it is almost impossible to play the game

in (sure) knowing I won't get to the chequered flag.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

 giddy of it.

In short your CPU needs  a boost of core voltage and there's
 three possible solutions:

1.   If you have Abit BX or BH  motherboard boost the core voltage from
the BIOS/CMOS from core 2.0v to 2.05 or  2.1v and GPL
will not crash back to desktop again. If you have other motherboard
you will have to cover pins on the CPU to do the same.

2.   Download Waterfall Pro 2.01 and use the CPU throttle feature
and it will solve the problem.

     http://www.racesimcentral.net/://www2.seeder.net/lwt/w...

3.  Buy a voltage regulator/purifier which may solve the problem but I have not
tested this one myself. I can vouch for the top 2 as I have tested
    them both.

If you need more help let me know..............Cheers, Chatham

GPL: exits in the middle of the game

Worth reposting, I missed it the other times, so thanks!
I'm downloading waterfall from the link you kindly supplied as we
speak.

I"ve been putting up with this intermittent problem for a while - but
it just disconnected me and sent me back to the desktop after I'd done
my best qualifying ever - and then wouldn't let me back in! Aargh.

Hopefully this is soon to happen no more..

I'm running my 300a at 450: is it worth going to 504? I've been happy
to sit at a comfortable, "no-extra-cooling" 450 thus far.

There's a new version of Waterfall Pro 2.1  available for download

  http://cpu.simplenet.com/leading_wintech/

You might want to try this temp solution to saving details

     name:               frenzy

     serial:             77906890-7676-3673-0019

                (for 2.1 only)

Did it solve your crashing back to Windows problem ?

 I wouldn't recommend overclocking C300A to  504 mhz without
extra cooling. I have two additional fans blowing at the CPU.

Cheers

GPL: exits in the middle of the game

Hi,

Why are you sure that the problem is in overheating ?

I run my system sometimes even all around the clock without visible problems,
and the temperature monitor built into my MB (Asus P2B) shows no more than 38
C /100 F. And the problem seems to appear only when I run GPL (and more often
on some special moments, like crashing etc - though as I said previously it is
not bound to them and GPL crashes sometimes even in menus). Also I noticed
once when I was racing Ferrari (not for many days though), that all run very
smooth, but when I reverted back to Coventry and BRM GPL began to crash again.

I'll be glad to hear anyone on the subject

Dmitriy
