GPL : Pit exit solution :)

Ive heard that some people is having problem at some tracks exiting the pits
during practice (messing other guys laps) ...

I ve a solution to this ... Shift-R ... yep ...

If you press Shift-R in the pits , you go to the track itself (if no one is
coming) ...

tell me if it works, i still cant race online :(

Never thought of that.  Sounds almost usable.  The only thing I can see that
*Might* get in the way would be.. Just how far back does another car have to be
in order for GPL to say it's clear?

I'll have to test that theory out.

I dont think it would work too well online, due to high latencies the
shift-R
can work when a car is very close but not actually "there" due to the
warping. I
have very often shift- R'ed just to be rear ended by the car which wasn't
there when I hit shift R.
Would probably be ok if everyone has low pings though.

It might work, but I've sen shift-r put a car down right in the path of an
oncoming car sometimes.

I think a better solution would be to incorporate an additional camera view,
maybe called "pit exit" or something. Put it at the exit of the pit, facing back
down the track. When you're ready to leave the pit, you jsut take a glance at
the pit exit cam, and if the track looks clear, off you go...

Probably could be whipped up without too much effort given the track editors
floating around now...

Another viable approach is the use of Shift+V/Ctrl+V. If you're sitting in
your***pit and your car is stationary, repeated use of Shift+V will take
you progressively through the cars behind you. Ctrl+V will return you to
your***pit, once you've confirmed that the track is clear. Works well in
the pits, and also on those occasions when you've enjoyed an off-road
excursion in practice and you want to rejoin without fouling someone's hot
lap.

I really do applaud all of these suggestions... but PO still helps
IMHO...

What would also be nice is a way to toggle mirrors even while running in
the chase view.  That would be a GREAT use of the black area above and
below the camera view.  Just put the mirrors in the black area.  As far
as "realism" concerns, if you're driving in chase view (and I do), you're
already not THAT concerned with realism.

Note to purists - please don't start some rediculous thread about the
evils of driving in chase mode.  Everyone has their own reason for doing
it.
