In my experience, ace time is around 1.15.xx and semi-pro around 1.17.xx,
in either case, well out of my reach (1.18.4 at very best)

After finishing my first race of a championshiop season I save the game so I
can exit but it wont recognise the saved game. I get a prompt saying I can
either abandon season and lose it or continue to the next track. When saving I
get a screen that looks like it is creating C:\GP2\GP2SAVES\SEASON.CHA but when
I leave its gone. Am I missing a step? Also has anybody seen any difference
between the difficulty settings? I have raced both ace and semi-pro with a
1.16.xx winning the pole at Brazil for both. That is okay for ace but at
semi-pro I would like it a little easier.

Also has anybody seen any difference

I agree about the times.  I tried racing on ace and semi pro and the
AIs were setting about the same lap times.  I think (but am not
certain) that at the higher levels the AIs are a lot more aggressive.
