Dirt Track Racing Lag Weirdness (Very Weirdness!)

Hi,
I've been playing DTR for a while now, but recently I've run into a
weird problem.  When a friend and I play, if either of us has the server
on his LAN, that person warps badly to the other.
As recently as a month ago, this didn't happen.  We can still play
fine on other people's servers, but not our own!
for example, I have machine A and B.  He has machine C and D.  I
start a DTR server on A, then start up DTR on B and join the game.  I
warp very badly to my friend, and sometimes everyone else.  Even though
we are pinging very very well to each other - we are on the same cable
modem service, so we ping 30-50.
    Again, this problem is new!
    Any ideas? Thanks.

You are your own worst enemy, I believe -- by hosting on a server on
your LAN, and then going through an Internet connection (even if it is
a relatively-fast cable modem), you're likely to suffer more lag than
if you stood up the server on your own machine and then played on the
same machine that's hosting the server (I've done this with great
success on a 56K analog modem connection).

You might also need to "tune-up" your networking settings -- I'm not
very well-versed with the nuances of tuning a cable modem connection,
but I recommend that you start here to learn more about tuning online
connections in general:

Before you bend over backwards tweaking and tuning your connection,
though, I'd recommend trying my first suggestion to see if that helps
(hosting the server on the machine you're playing on).

Hope this helps!

Hmm... I thought that might be the problem but the weird thing is, as I
said, a month ago it wasn't doing this and now it's doing it on both of our
systems. (*shrug*)

I'd also expect any huge problems to show up in the ping, but they don't.  I
dunno.  Thanks again.
