Hi Sean

I had an increase of about 10% in my sim when I moved from directx 8 SDK to
dx9.  I am not sure if it was coincidence (although I benchmarked my sim
just before and after), just my experience.  Note this was on a DX8 game
(i.e. not optimised to use dx9 features).

I play GPL / F1 Champ / netKar / LFS / HL (counterstrike) + UT on occasion
and have had no probs with dx9 (on both of my PCs - Racing + Development
(and FPS))

There are always risks when installing any software, and you may need to
fiddle a little with driver updates etc, but I think on the whole its worth
it.  Also, for the sheer good racing I had the other night with netKar
online, I think its worth it for netKar alone.  I will be moving Sirocco to
dx9 pretty soon too.

Good luck! :)

All the best,
Ash

Yeah, indeed I was mocking all those people who seem so terrified of DX9.

OK, people, if you all are saying you haven't encountered problems so far, I'll
finally give it a try...

OK, maybe I'll try it.  Why were there some threads asking how to roll back
from DX9 to previous versions?  Thanks for the replies.

Most the games on your list are over 5 years old! I played most of
them myself, and still have the occasional UT botmatch, but I tend to
play modern games myself :-)

I'm looking forward to playing: Half-Life 2, F1C, Quake 4, Tron (maybe),
Call of Cthulhu...

Sry this may be too late, but FWIW, I moved to dx9 for netkar, had no change
in N2003 (but that is to be expected 'cause I use OGL) & lost ~ 8% in F1C:

Albert Park, rear of grid, most settings high or full ('cept shadows at
Medium), went from 39-40 to 36 fps w/ no other changes other than the dx
upgrade.  :o(          (yes, I checked to make sure all was the same)

98se (may be the reason I had differing results?)
xp1800 o/c to 2000 levels
GF3 ti200 o/c mildly
256 meg  (another possible reason?)

Do I regret the upgrade?  Naw... netkar is worth it!

Nah... I see zero difference between XP and 98se using the "same" DX and
driver versions.

Have you upgraded your video card drivers lately? -I was seeing framerate
fluctuations with DX9 and the 30.xx drivers I was using, but recently (early
June) Creative came out with 44.xx drivers for the GF3 Ti200 and that
brought the fps back to previous levels.

On my todo list...
