3D sound in GPL and N3

After finally discovering that how to get 3D sound working I have to sound
that it sounds great on my Dolby Surround stereo system but it's just so
unrealistic. When you've got someone driving behind you you don't hear him
at all, you can only hear him when he's beside or right in front of you. In
fact when somebody is right in front you his exhaust noise is quite useful,
not only can you see his gearbox working you can also hear it. When you're
overtaking somebody you can often use you're hearing to determine when your
opponent is braking. That's modelled quite good in GPL. But I just don't
understand the hard engine sound of someone that's following you.
Is there still something wrong with my sound setup or are others
experiencing this as well?

Think this is how it's modelled--one of the few downs of GPL. You can't hear
other cars aound you - or barely - in a real racecar. I would have loved
adjustable oponents sound a la the Nascar sims. Makes the transition from
hearing your wheels lock in qual to the howl of others in a race difficult IMO
:-)

When Clark was all over my ass I could defintiely hear him as the gap changed.
I run an sb live with yamaha speakers. I tried the recommended cambridges for a
few days and no matter what settings I tried they sucked, no 3d and crummy
sound. So after trying several brands and settings now I can almost smell the
other cars.
