I was racing the ai at dega, setting up to go into 3 I turn
down on somebody on my inside. The car spins quickly sliding
backwards, gets onto the flat, and the rear end lifts up to at least
45degrees and then lands nose first and settles back on all 4.
just wondering if anybody flipped yet just from catching air.

Have you watched the replay from chase view? Sounds like the roof flaps kept
you from flipping - I'm wondering if they are visible in the replay. That
would be pretty cool!

No, but I flipped from running up on a kerb at Watkins
Glen at a speed slightly faster than I usually take the
corner in question at.  Very, very strange.

Yes, the replay shows the deploying.. very realistic looking

In the player.ini file (I think) you can disable the roof flaps so you'll go
flipping instead...

It's cool to play with, but I wouldn't want to race that way...

Had an almost identical incident to what you're describing, and while
my car did come back down flat, it was still bouncing a bit, turned
sideways and then caught air again and started barrel-rolling.  Was
quite stunning to watch.

Definitely sounds like the physics of a car catching air are way
better than the demo.  Even when your roof flaps deploy, it isn't
always going to save you if you're skating across the grass at 180mph
and hit one of the access roads...  and definitely not going to help
you much if you're doing that same thing sideways... But at least
sliding in the grass is easier on the tires...  ;-)

I remember one VERY bizarre race with the demo, via IRF, where the host had
jacked up the track adhesion at Michigan to the point where you never
touched the brakes at all.  The Lap times were, well, amusing :)

The cars stuck so hard, and went so fast, that several times when in a
corner I would wiggle the wheel to the left a little to hard to avoid
something and the right side would glue down, and the left side would lift
in the air and I'd go tumbling down the race car, flipping door to door
several times.

It was a wild race :)
