: I get this sometimes leaving pit road at the beginning of a practice
: session.  No cars on the track, nor cars really close on pit road.  How
: 'bout it Papy?  Is this a sound glitch or did you intentionally put in
: the "awful bell"?  If it is intentional, please take it out in the
: patch.
:

Leave it in.  It's realistic.  It's just normal radio noise that happens
when the crew chief or spotter turns on the radio in a hurry.  It's the
"squelch" related to radio communications.  Sometimes it takes a
fraction of a second for the software of the radio to filter it out.

: > Also, will the mirror problem be corrected?
:
: I don't believe that Papyrus view the mirror as a problem. I feel like I
: can safely reveal that the beta testers had a chance to test a couple of
: different versions of the mirror, and this is the best that Papyrus could
: come up with. The version that eliminated the blind spot had this weird,
: convex, "Objects are closer than they appear" effect that was completely
: useless for door-to-door racing.
:
<snip>

The mirrors took a little getting adjusted to.  But with the added input
from the spotter, I am more than happy with how the mirrors work.  One
just has to be more conscious of checking the mirrors more often and
making mental notes about what one sees (or doesn't see) compared to the
last glance.  I hazard to guess that most people ignore their virtual
and real rearview mirrors too much anyway.

I agree. While there is a blind spot, having situational awareness, keeping
a good eye on the mirror and listening to the spotter make up for it. I
love the fact that Papy got rid of the "objects closer than they appear"
approach. It's much better to know whether a car is a few feet off the side
of mine or if we're about to trade paint. Fighting Dallas traffic five days
a week has really got me prepared for Bristol.<G>

After I found how to use the mirrors effectively, I couldn't see why
people are complaining about it. I think they work just fine. As I'm
racing, I always keep my eyes on the road in front of me. When I'm
about to turn into a corner or change my driving line, I'll check
my mirrors, the ones that indicate whether ot not there is a car
directly beside you, and if I don't see any part of a car, I turn.
I have yet to run into anybody this way. The only way I could hit
someone is if there was someone in the blind spot and I slowed down
suddenly and not check my mirrors again before turning in.

If only some of my mates drove like you. I have tried to explain how
to read the mirrors (Which is simple) but they still have problems.
Actually now I have a spotter its real hard to crash into anyone now.
So really players hitting the AI cars should really be an unlucky 5%
With my mates I dont think that will happen... :-)

Personally, I like the mirrors in N2.... At least when you're following a
guy in multiplayer that is wagging all over trying to find you in his
mirror, you know he's trying to mirror drive you and block you since he
doesn't have the skill or speed to stay ahead of you like so many do on
Hawaii now....
