F1RS serial link

by Liutger Franze » Wed, 29 Jul 1998 04:00:00

my friend bought F1RS some weeks ago and as we had lots of fun playing
GP2 in serial link mode before, I wanted to test the multiplayer-***
prior to buying it myself. so we made a copy of his CD and tried serial
link and either it did not work at all (with his p2-300, voodoo2 as
master) or his computer had a complete lockup after connecting and mine
told me after about 30 seconds "other player lost" or something ... my
question is: is this because of the fact that we were using a copy? or
is this a general problem with F1RS? we both used the 1.09 patch and
configuration was:

        p2-300
        asus p2l
        64 mb
        3d blaster II, 8mb
        mystique 4mb

and     p200mmx
        asus tx97
        64 mb
        monster 3d, 4mb
        millenium I, 4mb

anybody experienced similar problems?

No, we had the same problems trying to connect with two genuine
F1RS cd's. IMHO the game sucks in multiplayer mode, but that seems
to be a common thingy except for ICR2, which is the only sim that
works without performance loss over a serial link.

We spent two hours debugging the configurations, even doing
a fresh install and patching to 1.0.9, but to no avail.
We got maybe 15mins of playing time during that evening, and then
still the cars warped around the circuit.
