Do us all a favor and take the refund.

"Unless your playing these games with a wheel.." -  Why buy a sim and
not have a wheel already? I could never understand why, in a world
where a cheapo wheel/pedal combo can be had virtually anywhere for a
pittance, someone would buy a driving sim and use a joystick or
keyboard.

"Now the game crashes and wouldn't even load..." - Seems that you
resolved that issue. Lemme guess, user error?

"After all these patches I didn't see that many improvements..." - How
would you know? Last I checked, the download was the latest official
patch version (ver. 1070), so you wouldn't have seen the previous
versions. What are you comparing it to? And using either of 2 beta
patches isn't a valid argument, as they are....ready?... "BETA".

You need help. Open your eyes and see the truth.

It could be a firewall.  rFactor needs access to the internet.  If it
can't it hangs trying to access the net.
There is a line of text in your driver's plr file that will disable this.
open your plr file with a text editor and search for this line:
Disable NetComm="0" // If 1, network features are disabled

   Change the 0 to a 1.
save and exit.
then try restarting rf.
or...try disabling your firewall while you attempt to start rf.
good luck

:) I make times on RBR without a wheel. Its not the lack of skill of
lack of hardware. I don't have credibility but I don't share your
perspective. My perspective I can't deal with the game without a wheel
and I think you would feel the same way if you were in my position.
However, your not.

Its not nonsense. I am just not a rich boy with a $1,500 wheel and the
top of the line machine.

Thanks Dave. It works fine now. Just that I don't have any of the maps
so I can't really play online. At least you try to help where some
others enjoy bashing me instead.

Wasn't user error. I was trying to do offline races to just see how they
are and before the tracks load the game stops and I get a error msg
because the program crashed. Just tried it again a few times on
different tracks and then it finally stopped crashing.

I finance my PC habit by not driving a real car. Sometimes you have to
get your priorities straight. ;-)

But you don't need to spend a lot of a wheel. What's important is using
something with much more of an analogue range than any gamepad can
offer... unless you have the fine-tuned finger control of a brain surgeon!

Even a joystick will do for steering. You really do need pedals for
brake & throttle though. Mixing them on the joystick makes life very hard.

RBR was developed from the start with the console market in mind; thus it's
natural for it to have better support for digital controllers (and for it to
suffer from console-style menus).  rFactor was developed and targeted
towards the PC sim market, where the standard controller is an analog, force
feedback wheel and pedals, so extensive support for the type of controllers
you're using was just not going to be a high priority item.  You'd be
hard-pressed (no pun intended) to control a real car with a pushbutton
controller, and the same is true of a sim.  Besides, the point is not so
much what times you can achieve, but how you experience the game.  While
there is enough support to make it doable, if you play without a force
feedback wheel and pedals, you're going to be missing a lot of the
experience that the development effort went towards providing.  As for the
rich boy thing, you can buy perfectly good FF wheels all day long for less
than $100US.

You're swimming in a different pond here; don't be so surprised that the
fish are different... ;-)
