I thought his posting was stopped, but confused is back at it...sending
more alldata ***via the alt.binaries.simulators.autos newsgroup.  I email
some of the receipiants, asking them to request confused move on...a couple
responded positively but others have just said  tuff..

Any net detectives out there that can track this booger down?

He's probably using a proxy server.......

That's an inside joke for the people in here that also frequents the
"other" NG :-)

Dave's an instigator, a Catalyst :-)

I'm having a hard time making my posts look exactly like that Confused
guy, still working on it though, hopefully I'm close enough that someone
spends a lot of time DL some weird old music videos I had on a mostly
unused partition of an old HD on an old server....:-)

Well Goy's method would be the only way that might work.  If somebody
sat down and figured out just how big the files are he's sending and how
many chunks to cut them up with...we could duplicate his format.  But...
I know when somebody can take a punch and Confused ain't gonna budge.
I don't know the procedure, but I propose a radical solution.
(the old 'What Would Captain Kirk do? plan)
I guess I'm not too thrilled having sim racing equated with software
theft, so does anyone know who to contact to disolve the
alt.binaries.simulators.autos newsgroup?  We can always start some other ng
later...but I'm thinking the only way to move these guys is to turn off the
newsgroup.
  Any thoughts?

I just sent off an email to the same address. I also let the makers of the
software know. Maybe they can be more aggressive and actually threaten with
legal repercussions... I guess only time will tell.

You're right, Goy. So I don't feed the trolls, I'll put my post here instead
(as if it'll make a difference).
My normal news server doesn't carry the binaries group, so I hopped on the
roadrunner one (only hold messages about 3 days) to check it out. I'm set up
to d/l 900 post at a time. Needless to say, I was quite surprised when all
900 were from that same guy for downloading some pirated GM software or
something. If there were any other posts mixed in with his, I didn't find
them and nobody else would have either.
I guess when Dave said it was getting a little out of hand, I had no idea he
meant. That is waaaaay beyond getting out of hand.

And the newsgroup software they use has far more capacity.  I uploaded a
bout 800 small files and didn't make a dent in their efforts.  Since they
just filter out our counter-flood attempts, there is little we can do
except try and match the file size and naming.  That would only confuse the
end users and force requests for reposts.  Still not a 'strong defense.'
I don't see them being 'reasonable' folks..they have been in possesion
of the newsgroup for years and seen un-inclined to leave.  That's why I
suggested killing the newsgroup.  That is the only real way I can think of
that will impact them.

Exactly, just remember that there's more than one person using the
"confused" name :-), I'm currently using OE for posting there, but I'll
prolly look into something else soon as it's a major resource hog when
setting up a new post

I'm currently using my 2nd shop computer to post stuff there and with a
1mbit upload I'm managing quite a few posts pr day :-), good thing
Teranet doesn't have an UL cap as none of my ISP's carry this NG either,
although the UL speeds are nowhere near 1 mbit so I guess they have some
sort of cap on it

With the kind of traffic that NG is seeing these days, I wonder how long
ISP's are storing the posts as my posts alone should be a couple of GB's
worth alone, the server admins needs to limit the amount of space a
single NG can use somehow, I know HD space is cheap these days, but even
ISP's doesn't have unlimited server space...
