I am having touble running GPL. After installing, when the program is
started, the machine will freeze during the splash screen. I have tried
installing both the full and typical images, as well as choosing Software or
3dfx as the video choice. My system config is as follows:

PII-400
AOpen AX6BC w/128M PC100
Diamond Viper 550
Diamond Monster 3DII
Creative SB-Live Value
Toshiba DVD 7502

Any suggestions/ideas?

same problem here on a laptop running win98 and a trident video chip,
and also under nt with a rage pro. Wanted to show the folks at work
who think rallycross 2 is racing what the real deal is. Bummer.

pardon my overstating the obvious...but since i screwed this up maybe
someone else has too.

when you install GPL if MUST be off the root dir \sierra\gpl

if you install it under - say - games\sierra\gpl, you will be able to
do some things but it WILL lock soon after starting

My copy of GPL resides in a directory named games\sierra\gpl (although
I would prefer to name it games\autosims\gpl, so it could be placed
next to ICR2 and GP2, where it belongs, but that's another story) and
has been working perfectly from day one. No lockups. So I'm afraid
your theory doesn't hold water.

My GPL is under C:\games\Sierra\GPL, I get occasional locks, but most of the
time it's OK. Hopefully 1.1 will fix it :)

Have to admit that I have never found this on my system.
I have GPL installed under c:\games\sierra\gpl and it has locked up only a
handful of times in the 7-8 months since I first got it. Is this supposed to
be a known problem, if so I guess I have just been lucky... I have all my
sierra sims under the same directory structure.

Yes, it has run fine under my c:\games\sierra\gpl too (haven't got ANY
lockups for over half a year). Lockups are due to hardware drivers and
such, not the directory. Glide 2.53 and that sort of stuff, enough of
those questions lying around to fill Alexa!
