CART Heat Preview patch problem

by bernie eccl » Tue, 29 May 2001 04:04:33

I can't seem to get the CART Heat preview patch to install.  I have patched
up to
1.3beta and also have the no-cd patch installed.  I finally managed to get
the CART shape by renaming the cart.car file to stock.car but now have a
field of red cart cars.

Can anyone let me know where I am going wrong.

Thanks

CART Heat Preview patch problem

It could be acouple of items...Where is NH installed?
On your main C drive or split onto two separate drives?
(anytime you install anywhere but the default folders, you get a second set
of some files in the default path)
You need 3 files for the patch to work,  the paint.res , the cart.car and
the drivers.txt
if you have the nocd patch..did you have to rename the data folder to run?
ie. hasbro\nascar heat\data becomes
hasbro\nascar heat\run
The paint.res file goes into the data or run folder, depending on how the
nocd works and the other two files must be in the same folder as the file
called options.cfg

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by bernie eccl » Tue, 29 May 2001 05:31:44

Dave,

Thanks for the response.  Part of the problem was that I had installed it
onto my "D" drive (therefore 2 paths).  I have now uninstalled it and
re-installed into  C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat.  I have
also patched up to 1.3b (I have not yet installed the No CD patch)

With your advice I am now at least getting the names of the CART drivers but
still don't have any car paint schemes except Christian Fittipaldi who has a
corrupt paint job.  I have tried placing the paint.res in different places
but all to no avail.

I am running at 1024 x 768 and 16bit colour.

Any other ideas?  I am more determined than ever to get this to work now :)

Thanks again

Stewart

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by Dave Henri » Tue, 29 May 2001 05:52:13

make sure that all the other folders have been erased.
if you have two copies of files like the options.cfg or drivers.txt that can
scramble things up.
so even though you uninstalled NH, there is a good chance the folders with
a few extra files are left on the D:\drive.  Make sure those are gone.  Then
make backups of your drivers.txt  & your paint.res files.
finally take the paint.res file from the patch zip and put it
into the nascar heat\data folder.  make sure that only ONE version of
drivers.txt is in the nascar heat folder and that the cart.car and stock.car
files are there as well.
Elsewhere in this newsgroup, John Bodin(who's probably grinding his teeth
right now..) {:>}    has a very
good checklist to go through for the patches...I think it referred to LeMans
Heat but the process is very similar.
see if you can find that for a quick double check

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by bernie eccl » Tue, 29 May 2001 06:02:44

Thanks.  The strange thing is there wasn't a "drivers.txt" file installed
(before the CART patch).  I have done a file search and the only one that
shows is for ICR2.  There are no other traces on either of my drives.

I did see a link for a FAQ, unfortunately it appears to be on the
simracing.net page which along with the Pits is down.

I am presently downloading the 2nd preview patch to see if that makes a
difference however it may be the 2nd one that I am already running.  There
doesn't appear to be any way of telling.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again.

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by Dave Henri » Tue, 29 May 2001 06:18:21

ok  that is because...heheh the drivers.txt was added with the v1.1 patch.
Even though v1.3b is supposed to be a complete replacement, meaning you
don't need to install v1.1 first,
it probably is a good idea.  Sorry I didn't remember that...
my hardware problems have kept me away from mods for at least a month.
so..back up..
patch to 1.1  which should still be available at the NH hasbro site or at
Black hole or other Heat websites and THEN run the 1.3 patch.  Good luck..

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by bernie eccl » Tue, 29 May 2001 07:24:05

Dave,

Still no go :(  I have done a full re-install, patched to 1.1 then to 1.3,
then patched the CART add-on.  Once again I have got the CART drivers names
and white car shapes during the race.  And again Christian's car has a
strange corrupt paint job.

Oh well, back to CART CS 2000.  Roll on the release of Elkhart Lake.

Thanks for your perseverance.

Cheers

Stewart

CART Heat Preview patch problem

Great.  Finally got the problem solved thanks to the forum on
http://www.legendscentral.com/ :-

All I need to do now is figure out how to install some set-ups.

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by Incubu » Tue, 29 May 2001 19:31:06

The way I've got it is like this:......(back up your files first)

In the "Data" (or if you have the no-cd patch, this becomes the "run"
folder....same thing) I've got

paint256.res  .........this is actually the paint.res that comes with the
cart patch, but renamed to "paint256.res". I've deleted the original Nascar
Heat version of "paint.res".

cart.car  ........  from the cart patch.

In the main Heat folder (which is C:/program files/hasbro interactive/NASCAR

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by John Bod » Wed, 30 May 2001 02:46:41

<SNIP>

Dave,

Yes, I am kind of grinding my teeth at the moment, with regards to the
IRL, that is.  If you'd like to see my take on yesterday's Indy 500,
check this out:

http://irlinsider.adnetweb.com/501tvfms2.htm

;-)

Now, with regards to the NASCAR Heat mods, here's my latest help file
(which now includes some of the tips I've found in this thread, as
well):

Sorry you're having problems -- here are a few things to try:

1) MAKE SURE you used the installation option to "run NASCAR Heat from
the hard drive" -- this is a "full installation."  If you did a
partial installation (that is, if you're running the game from the
CD-ROM), you'll NEVER get the IRL Heat, CART Heat, or Le Mans Heat
mods to work.

2) MAKE SURE you install the 1.1 patch.  You need to have this
installed before proceeding to step 3, and just performing step 3
won't give you everything you need.

3) After you're sure you've got the 1.1 patch installed, MAKE SURE you
have the 1.3 patch installed -- you can get this from the
High-Compression site (http://hc.letsgoracin.net/thesite/).

4) Make sure the "irl.car" file is in the "...\NASCAR Heat\Data"
folder (or the "cart.car," etc.).

5) Make sure the "drivers.txt" file is in the "...\NASCAR Heat"
directory.  Just to be sure, you can also put it in the "...NASCAR
Heat\Data" directory as well.

6) Make sure the *.tex files from the paint fix are all in the
"...\NASCAR Heat" directory.  For CART Heat and Le Mans Heat, make
sure you have the "paint256.res" for the mod in question in the "...
NASCAR Heat\Data" directory, along with the "drivers.txt" and "*.car"
files.

7) Make sure the "options.cfg" file is in the "...\NASCAR Heat"
directory -- if it's in the "...\NASCAR Heat\Data" folder, MOVE it to
the "...\NASCAR Heat" directory. Just to be safe, you might put your
"options.cfg" and your "drivers.txt" files in both the "...\NASCAR
Heat" and the "...\NASCAR Heat\Data" directories.

8) Make sure you don't have another "options.cfg" file for NASCAR Heat
someplace else -- do you have NASCAR Heat installed to the default C:\
drive location ("C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat")?
If you have the game installed to the D:\ drive, then you ALSO have a
few NASCAR Heat files in the default C:\ drive location -- in this
case (that is, IF and ONLY if you have NASCAR Heat installed someplace
other than the default C:\ drive location), then you need to delete
any copies of the "drivers.txt" and "options.cfg" files that exist on
the C:\ drive (DO NOT delete the NASCAR Heat directory on the C:\
drive location, though -- JUST the "drivers.txt" and "options.cfg"
files).

Give these things a try and let me know if it helps.

Thanks to all who responded.  I now have the patch working just fine.  Still
need to suss out how to get the 6 gears working but haven't had time to look
at that yet.

Cheers

CART Heat Preview patch problem

they should be there ...just the gearing is waaaay too tall and it bogs
the motor down.  get the 5th and 6th gears up around 1.00  and .90 or .95
and you should be fine.(ps the buttons for 5th & 6th are outside the gear
menu window...just to the left.  Don't forget to save it.

CART Heat Preview patch problem

by Incubu » Wed, 30 May 2001 23:00:21

I've just made a awitcher to switch between the IRL patch and normal Nascar.
I downloaded the one from the IRL site, but it didnt work, and also, they
had 2 seperate files that you had to execute each time you wanted to
play...... one to change to IRL, and a second one to change back to Nascar.

The one I have is one file, does all the switching automatically (both
before and after), has the correct directory paths, and can be placed in any
directory. I'm doing one for the CART patch as well, and I'll upload them to
bhmotorsports either tomorrow or the next day.
