Jed,
Thank you for doing what you can with daytona people on or behalf, Is
there anything we can do to help?
I would love to be able to run Daytona as well as Brickyard but only
if they are legit and realistic.
Again, on behalf of those of us who are serious about our sim racing
Thank you.

>All,
>Over the past couple of days there has been a frenzy over this Daytona
>Patch that has 'appeared' on the Internet.
>First of all I'd like to set some things straight.
>As far as I know, its not my patch as I never released it or uploaded
>it to and Internet server unecrypted.
>During the Beta test version I carefully vetted the testers and
>explained the reasons why they must not pass the track around.
>It IS possible that one of the Beta testers in sheer frustration over
>the Daytona issue has posted one of the early Beta versions of the
>patch.
>However, I would be grateful if someone could post a PCX grab from the
>game showing the added wall writing and new grandstand that supposedly
>is in the game. This way I can be sure in my own mind that its not my
>work. I suspect is is not as the file name is called DAYTONAB.ZIP and
>seems to be a 'hacked' patch.
>Secondly, I would like to express my congratulations to the creator of
>the track for managing to crack the file format, but also to express
>my frustration at the damage they may well be doing.
>In my own small way as the person who got the whole Daytona debate to
>a new level, I have had some fairly constructive talks with Andrew
>Gurtis at Daytona and have tried to pitch our case for Daytona very
>strongly.
>Daytona are not the bad guys in this sordid episode, but they are
>trying to protect their rights.
>After the discussions I had with them, I withdrew my Daytona patch
>because I believed that it may of actually jepordised any
>consideration that Daytona had of letting Papyrus have the license.
>However, these new patches are again jepordising the chance of the
>license being granted and the 'we don't care -***you Daytona'
>attitude is making things worse than I ever did.
>I also despair that we are getting to the stage where we will soon be
>flooded with many patches for one thing or another and the overall
>quality of these sims will be jepordised and that new bugs will be
>introduced.
>It is possible that an inexperienced user could render a track useless
>by using a util incorrectly.
>Gerhard and I worked hard to make sure that what we released was worth
>releasing and took car to make sure it enhanced, not degraded, the
>original.
>Lastly, all I ask is that people think very hard before downloading
>and Daytona patches.
>Do you really want to jepordise the chance of us getting an official
>Daytona track or any others for that fact, just so you can get a poor
>substitute made up from leftovers from other tracks?
>I'm about to e-mail Andrew Gurtis and try to convince him that I
>haven't released my patch and not to sue my arse to high hell over it.
>If it does get serious then I may have to seriously consider whether
>or not I want to continue in the sim racing world adn whether or not
>to keep The Pits going.
>At The Pits, we're on your side and we're trying to make things
>better. Don't***it up for us.
>I don't mind you having our utils on your pages, but try to refrain
>from lifting the HTML straight from The Pits.
>If you are going to scream and shout about your homepage and least
>make sure its your own.
>Thanks for listening.
