I think thats Methanol, crazy stuff, you cant see it burning.  I have
seen the guys suddenly starting to wave their arms out frantically
during a pitstop and wondered what was going on.  Scary stuff

The downside of using methanol apart from the low energy level is that
is burn with no visible flame. The big plus is that it can be put out
with water. I think it was after a big accident at indy in 67 they
stopped using gas in the indycars to make it safer. Funny that they
never did that in F1, but they don't race ovals in F1, and after the
invention of the fuel cell it's not really a big problem.

LOL!
Could be useful on the track too, to close small gaps. Eat beans
before you race. ;-)

please keep in mind that i'm not claiming it's a fake picture.  i'm
certainly no expert at validating fake pictures, and have no problem being
put in my place.  if i'm wrong, someone please correct me.

first, take a look at the shadow of the people.  their shadow's are RIGHT of
them in perspective to the picture.

next, look at the shadow of the planes wing.  the shadow is to the left of
the wing.

doesn't this send up flags to anyone else?

also, Will, i see the shadow of the guard rail, but not the plane.

also, i'm talking about the pic in the second link.  pretty obvious that the
first one is authentic.  second one looks a little cut-and-paste.

Those pictures are not faked. The planes really do land that low there.
I have seen pieces on TV about it as well.

Yup....  I flew to St. Maarten in 1988.  I don't recall it being on a
747 though...  From what I recall, there were only two or three flights
in per day at that time, so this was not a steady thing.  I think we
landed at about 1:00pm.  There are other beaches on St. Maarten besides
that one that are a lot less "hazardous".

On that same trip, I recall that there's a small airport on St.Barts
whose runway is situated similarly.  In fact, on that beach, there are
warning signs for beachstrollers to look inland for approaching planes
taking off as they're strolling down the beach!

That was my only trip to the Caribbean, so I can't compare it with other
islands, but I enjoyed St. Maarten.
