N4 or pedal problems?

by racefa » Mon, 07 Jan 2002 02:09:04

I have a Logitech Wingman Formula (Black) and I just started having problems
in N4.  It sounds like the car isn't running under full power and starts to
miss under full throttle.  (It's not the rev limiter.)   Do I have a driver
or device conflict?  Are the pots going in the pedals?

Check the distributor?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Unless you have recently added new
hardware, or just changed the drivers, if I was going to guess, I'd
say it is the pots.  Even if you have done those things, I'd still
lean towards the pots.

I don't have the same wheel you do, but you should be able to see the
same type problem in the game controllers applet in Windows control
panel.  If the problems appear there, or in other games, get some pot
cleaner (please please please not WD40!!!) and try cleaning the pots.

If the problems persist, it can be because the pots are worn past the
point where cleaning will help.  Or it could be that you do have a
driver or device conflict, especially if you just added hardware or
changed drivers.

GOOD LUCK.

Gerald

Thanks, it was the pots.  I switched the brake and throttle ones and it's
fine for now.

What do you suggest to clean them with?  (I know not to use WD40.)  I have
some electrical contact cleaner spray.  Will that work?

N4 or pedal problems?

I would imagine it would work... but don't hold me to it.  The main
thing I think is to avoid products containing petrol. distillates,
which do the job initially, but then tend to turn to gum, and make
everything much worse over the long haul.

Actually, the main problem with pots is that they wear out, rather
than get dirty, so you may wind up just replacing it, especially if
you put it to a great deal of use.
