The 67/68 version of the Glen was different than the one used today..
Although it does look very much like todays track.. (nearly same length and
layout) it DID NOT have and inner loop....
The Innerloop at the Glen was built in 1970 - after they bulit the "big"
circuit. So i would imagine we will get a Glen without an innerloop.

Hi there,

I just got word from Papy's Mike Lescault about the upcoming
Grand Prix Legends demo.
The demo will be 11 megs big and it will be featured in the May
issue of Computer *** World magazine.
The demo won't have neither multiplayer support nor Ai cars, though.
You will be able to choose from 3 cars and the track featured in the
demo will be the glorious Watkins Glen.

Cheers,

-Thorsten Rueter

I'm not sure. Judging from the last screenshots which showed us the
Glen I would say without Inner Loop.

Actually, if memory serves, wasn't the Inner Loop added in '91, after
J.D. MacDuffie's fatal wreck in the Bud at the Glen?  (Or is my memory
playing tricks and it was just that NASCAR started using the chicane?)

Yes you are correct.  I think what everyone is referring to is the section
that was added when they reconfigured The Glen around '71 or so.
This section is called "The Boot" which is only now used for events
other than the NASCAR event.

OOPS!!! Apparently this new software isnt working right as my post hasnt
appeared.

The section that everyone is referring to I think is called "The Boot".
This section was added around '71 I think and they also relocated the
Start/Finish line and the pits as well.

Actually, it did pop up here.  I'm responding to the second one
because it had more information, though.

Ah, OK, that jibes with something I read on a book of "The World's
Greatest Racetracks" that dates back to like '73 or so that was in my
(previous) college's library, which mentioned the extension being
designed on computer and such, with a precisely calculated average
speed for a perfect lap that came within like 1/2 mph of the actual.

I think it may have referred to that section as "The Outer Loop,"
since it bypassed the original "loop" corner that NASCAR still uses...
then again, this was only a year or two after it was added.

Track was redesigned in about 1970, the engineering firm was the
same one that originally designed the NY Thruway... The lap time
analysis for Can-Am and F1 cars was done by Cornell Aero Lab here in
Buffalo.
