I recently had a new computer built and decided to reinstall Geoff
Crammond's
GP3 onto my new system.  I also purchased a Logotech Momo FF Wheel.
The problem I am having is that I cannot figure out how to get GP3 to
recognize the Momo Wheel.  All racing simulation games which I have
purchased within the last
couple of years work well with the Momo setup, however GP3's overly
complicated controller setup defies me.  I was thinking about
purchasing GP4 as I have never been pleased with F1 2001, and of
course my first preference is Nascar, but I won't buy GP4 if it is
going to be this complicated.

Someone will be along later to help you out with your wheel problem, but i'd
advise against buying GP4 - it may not be much better. GP4 frontend-wise is
identifiably similar to GP3 and carries over some issues. I couldn't use
split-axis on my Logitec rumblepad in GP3 and it wasn't put right in GP4
either, so that hampered my enjoyment of the game - even more so when i
tried to play the ***.

Google is your friend here, check how many heckles were raised in this group
by GP4s slideshow play.

If you didn't enjoy F1 2001, try a demo of F1 2002. There is a Ubisoft game
out with iirc is unlicensed (but surely modifiable). Find the GP3 season
2000 add-on also, that will give your GP3 some GP4like features (like debris
collision) and season updates are available too.

That said, i've seen a lot of discounted GP4 boxes lately, suppose you could
try it and if you don't like it get a refund. But let's be clear about this,
F1GP, GP2 and GP3 (or is that GP2.5?) were perfectly fine. I hated GP4. Save
your money for Nascar Racing 2003 and pick up a budget GPL.

GP3 works ok with the Momo in my experience.
There are some peculiarities in setting up the GP3 control:
- First make a custom controller: go toOptions - Controls - Advanced, then
select one of the Not used control methods. Set it to type Wheel. Use Edit
set name to change to "momo" for example.
- Then click the drop down box for the acceleration device, and re-select
the choice that was already shown for the axis (usually Controller A (Y) or
Controller A (Z))
- The game will show all available axes on that controller. Press your
accelerator pedal, then check the little square box next the axis on the
screen that responded. If there was no response on any axis, retry with
controller B.
- Repeat the last two steps for the brake.
- The steering is usually right the first time without modifying.

Make sure you get the 1.13 patch (unless you're using GP3 Season 2000)
