Attempting to mislead your opponent as to your true intentions. As in
"Mansell sold Piquet a dummy to the inside, then passed on the outside".
I.e. Mansell faked lining up his opponent on the inside and passed him as he
went to defend his position.
You surprise me Dave, I thought the love and war reference was the harder

just guessing...dummy(fake) moves into the pits. A leader moves over as
if to enter pit-lane, then jerks back onto the track at the last moment.
but thats just my guess...

That's what I thought it might be too because I've seen some drivers do that
in the RASCAR races.
