I'm pretty sure they'll never be a GPL2, but, given the beautiful carsets,
tracks, and utils like these written by totall GPL enthusiasts, who cares??

'Flying' cameras in most other movies come from using one car as a
camera car. If you set a car cam with no view of the car it's on, it
looks like it's floating. Shown to good effect in Sam Dobie's movie.
What you can do then is drive it round to get the views you want, like
setting up an AI race, starting the the back and trundling down the side
of the grid with a cam that points at 90 degrees away from the side of
the car. That gives you a nice tracking grid view.

You can make normal TV cams move. I've done it on some of my track cams.
You can set several cameras in a line and have the change over points
at, say, 20m intervals so as the car gets closer the view switches to
the next camera. Easy enough to get a camera view crossing the track but
it's a little jerky and you're limited to 64 cams in a TV set.

He's worked out that you can move the pitcam by using a script that
allows you to 'fly' it using the wheel and pedals. Cool eh? :)

I've suggested something similar to him for the normal track cams.
Apparently that's his next project. If he can work out how to preprogram
a track camera to move along, the replays will be amazing!

Maybe this text from Peter's site will clear things up a bit:

Currently I am extending the Car Camera Manager with a lot of new
features, because it is not only car camera stuff anymore I will
rename it to Camera Control Master:
My plans for the upcoming versions are:

Next version:
- User control of car cameras by mouse and steering wheel. This will
be available on the "roll bar" camera (already did mouse and it looks
great)
- Camera effects by user script defining a movement. This will be
available on the "roll bar" camera. (already did it and it also looks
great)
- Synchronisation of user control and effects with GPL2AVI (already
did it)
- User control of the pit camera (already did it)
- Multiple file support (not done yet)
- Launch buttons for the most important utilities and of course GPL
itself (not done yet)

Later version or next version:
- Saving camera positions, to use the manager also as editor
- Saving also screenshot with it (have to investigate)
- Management of track camera files including TV1, TV2 and Pit camera.
(have to investigate)
- Things that I can not think of now.

After that:
- Trying to lower my GPL rank.

I expect to release the Camera Control Master in november.

Just wait a couple of years until they invent the machine, than copy
the software and jump back to now.
If that is ever to happen btw, you are supposed to have it... now.
