Unfortunately, the online aspect of SCGT stinks, so you're out of luck
there.

As you probably know by now, online SCGT is not a realistic hope... but you
can race sportscars online.
The guys behind the LeMans mod for F1-2001 are setting up an online league,

Does F1-2001 really work online? And with that I don't mean a grid
with 4 cars, where everyone has a T1 connection, and a latency below
the 20ms...

No, it doesn't, per your notes.

Gryphon.....you obviously can't set up SCGT very well.

SCGT can be set up so that you haven't a hope in hell of beating the AI
cars.

Simply make them 100%,then tick allow modified vehicles.

Now buy all the cars in the game one by one and modify them to the limit.

Then buy yourself a basic car and race.

This has the effect of making the AI cars approx twice as fast as you.

Shorten this disadvantage by modifying your car a little...

This works best with a nice full grid of 24 and all GT1 cars.

Have fun

With F1 2001 I've been in a 10 car field that was ok and a 4 car field
that was crap.   Basically EVERYONE MUST HAVE BROADBAND and they must have a
hellacious server.  F1 2k1 takes a ton of bandwidth...I've heard of one guy
getting 20 cars but since I've never seen this...I can't comment...it IS
better than SCGT & F1 2000, at least you can practice online while waiting
for drivers, but still the pings must be low and everytime a driver joins
your screen hiccups...
Back to the original poster, there was a league on Yahoo but they limited
each race to several 4 car heats...

I have not tried it myself, but a few of my fellow danish GPL'ers have
tested online , and as far as I remember they had "ok" results with 4-5 cars
as long as everybody had good connections.
The real problem comes when the cars reach over 300km/h the the lag get's
multiplied by a huge factor.
The LeMans/Fia GT/ALMS cars are slower so the chance for an acceptable
online experience is bigger.

Please ask in the forum I linked to... they know a lot more about this than
I do ;)
You could also try the foum at http://www.simbin.com they have a lot of
know-how on F1-2001.
