If he used to follow the GP races in the 60's I think he'd be far better of
visiting the Goodwood Revival Meeting in September rather than the
overcrowded Festival of Speed.

At the revival both early 60's F1 and F2 *race* and long with a bunch of
other historic cars and bikes.

I've vistited the FoS a couple of yearsd ago - but with 120K+ attending
there just too many people...  the "mere" 80-90K at the Revival meeting
makes it all so much more enjoyable.

I'll be making my 5th visit to the Revival this year and I've allready
started looking forward to it :o)

I was thinking about the revival meeting - how close can you get to
the cars/drivers during the meet?  His greatest memories about that
era were of just*** around the pits and chatting with Phil Hill.
I was worried that the revival would be all about the racing and there
wouldn't be as many close-up opportunities like you seem to get at the
FoS.

Provided you got the proper ticket and a tie (yes - a tie!) you can walk
freely among all the cars in the paddock.
The atmosphere is very friendly and there's much much *much* fewer people
stamping on your toes. Driver's come and go all day long and there's plenty
of things to see.  A few years ago we even bumped into Caroll Shelby.

There's even Spritfires, Mustangs and Hurricanes to be seen, smelled and
heard  -  man, what lovely "birds"!

Put simple.. if there was one single race I could visit a year - the
Goodwood Revival would be it....  It's really *that* good!
