Anyone with a negative GPLRank like GP3?

: no he doesnt -- he and zonta both tried it last year and are lucky to be
: alive....

Villeneuve has taken Eau Rouge and 130R flat in previous seasons.  And
yes, he has also crashed trying it.

But read some interviews with other drivers - some say they do
regularly - some say they couldn't and it's impossible.

: its not really a downforce thing its more to do with the wieght
: transfer forward when you let off or brake. This allows the front wheels to
: get round without massive understeer--- I dont think an F1 car with almost
: full wing would do the 130r flat.....

Well Villeneuve has said that he could and did "for the laugh".  Read
some interviews.  Don't know if he has in the "grooved tyre" era - but
he certainly did in 97.

It's common sense to me - put more wing on and Eau Rouge flat isn't a
problem - less and you'll spin off.

I'm not sure why the journalists make such a big thing out of this. As
you say, any driver who puts enough wing on can take Eau Rouge flat no
problem.

Exactly how much wing you would need to take off to make it a heroic feat
would be difficult to say. Jacques obviously erred on the low side last
year:-)

-56.31, and I like it. Not as much as GPL though :-)

Somewhat, yes. A racing game is about racing... which is to say,
driving fast enough to beat the other guy.

And yes, I say 'game' quite deliberately. Everything I do on my
PC is either a game - or work.

As I've posted before, I have nothing against those who have
time/skill enough to play GPL to the limit. But I don't have
either, so I don't find it much fun...

I guess you forgot about Villeneuve last year in practice when he rolled his car
at Eau Rouge.  Flat out through that section is almost non existant.

I take my hat off to your GPLRank:-)

GP3's OK - but don't you think it spoils your GPL technique, which is far
more about finesse, trail braking and throttle control, than the brute-
force manhandling of the GP3 cars.

No I didn't forget that - but Villeneuve actually made it in other
years.  And if he'd have (for whatever reason) stuffed loads of wing on
to his car he could do it easily.

Off topic naturally but I cannot seem to stay focused on newsgroups.
Anyways....I have wanted to thank you for the setups you posted...they
have helped me understand GPL a bit more than I did prior to using
your setups.

<grin> I tried Monaco in GPL last night, just to test out my new
FF wheel. It's my least favourite circuit in any racing
sim/game...

I drove slowly enough to stay on the track, all right. My lap
time was 2:36...  :(:(:(

I've never been able to see the appeal of Monaco as a venue.

Who finds in general that a good FF wheel actually does make GPL
slightly more manageable...
