ASDL and GPL online / major problems

by ymenar » Wed, 12 May 1999 04:00:00

Heya all,

This is a request for help :)   I got finally to pay myself a gift, a nice
ASDL connection.  It's great for surfing, but I have problems with the whole
Proxy server thingy.  Can't configure Real Player, Media Player, Mail,
etc...  but thus is not the point (I can work with the tech support on
this).

Spyboy doesn't work.  I think it's related as I said to the proxy settings.
But I have no idea where to find this.  I figure they want to know my Proxy
server, but the field in the Spyboy option is too small for the http://
address I have.

So now Im stuck with VROC.  I can join a race, it hops me to the GPL
interface.  When I click on "Multiplayer", Im sent as usual to the Join
menu.  But I can't join a race.  I only have 3 choices of "join".  US
Robotics Modem (no green button), Com1Serial Port and Com2Serial Port.
There's no other choice.  Somehow GPL thinks Im not connected to the
Internet.

How can we fix that ?  Here is what I have in my core.ini :

[ Communications ]
net_mdm_client_send_every = 3            ; Client packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_client_send_size = 84            ; Client packet size on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_every = 3            ; Server packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_size = 84            ; Server packet size on dialup

Is this correct ? If not, what are the best settings for my ASDL connection
now ? How frustrating to be stupid in this case

Have you tried the alternate TCP/IP lookup setting in the core.ini?

Cheers!

And what line would this be ?
net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip = 0  ; TCP/IP connections use modem
bandwidth?

This line up here ? If yes, I tried and it doesn't work.  GPL thinks Im
racing offline :(

[Communications]
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

Ok that worked...   But I also had to create a TCP/IP protocol also in the
Network.

That generally helps when dealing with the TCP/IP protocol of the internet.

   alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Add that line to let GPL see your TCP/IP conn.

If you havn't already been told,
here is the line you need to add
to your core.ini file:

alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

That's all :-)

:)

It would be even more helpful, though, if Win9x refused to accept
TCP/IP settings unless one had already installed the protocol for the
given adaptor...

Windows refuses to accept a lot of the shit I try to do with it.
