Hmmm, I see what you mean, but I only agree to a certain extend.
I believe every (major) motorsport has it's own subtleties and places it's
own particular demands on the player. As long as the simulation forces the
player to experience those(and modern sims have the ability), it's worth
playing, regardless of the series it portrays.
Before GPL I didn't know a lot about the history of F1 (say pre-1978) and,
frankly, I didn't care about it much either. What got my attention was the
bold claims of realism in the simulation by Papyrus (known and trusted
developer). Now that GPL hammered home the finer points of racing before the
safety crusade, I appreciate the efforts those who paved he way much more.
Same, to a certain extend with the NASCAR line of sims... though I was more
interested in the series to begin with, over the years and particularly in
view of the latest incarnations (N4 and N2k2), my respect for Winston Cup
drivers has grown deeper over the years.
For me (good) sims enhance the enjoyment of motorsport and allow me discover
more about what it takes to produce what I see on TV. It's a
self-perpetuating fascination.
So, IMO, saying a sim is more worthy because of it being good and having a
less popular subjectmatter, is an entirely subjective assesment and
partially indicative of a certain measure of narrowmindedness on the part of
the person making it.
