GP2 over modem link...Help!

by N & » Tue, 10 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Hi all
A friend and I decided after a couple of years of solo racing to connect and
race each other.
Great idea, BUT.....

...we are having trouble with the speed of the game on both machines( pent
133, 32M RAM and pent2 350, 64M RAM). We've tried turning all graphics off
so the frame rate is >25.6 but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the
speed of play.
We've experimented with different car sets, etc., even reloaded the game off
the CD so it was back to its original state, still no difference.

I guess the link performs some kind error checking so if the phone lines are
particularly noisy the speed will decrease. Am I right?

Baud rate is set to 57600 and both modems are 33.6K

Does anyone out there have any tips on how to get a faster link?
'cos my friend reckons he's going to kick my ass on the track and I want to
prove him wrong  :-)

Thanks in advance

Nick

1) Have the p350 answer
2) Set the graphics options to manual and set the fps to a low
speed (say 15) and then you should get a slow but steady
   game.

GP2 modem play isn't very good :-(

No No me and my friend did that with 14400 modems smooth as it is via a
serial link (which we did later..) I think it's the power differences
between the two platforms!
Try playing with the detail options on the weaker platform... also the PII
should be the host...
Hope that helps...
