what's the best way of starting a race?  how far should i rev the
engine?  i find that as my difficulty level increase, the computer
cars are always faster off the line than me.

Revs the engine until you hear  a suddon  sharp engine note changes,
then back-off a little and try to be in that "sweet spot". When lights goes
green, accelerate without spinning nor loosing revs.

If your a Thrustmaster Formula T1/T2 user and want to see on how to
ADD a CLUTCH (great for start-up) look at my website -->
http://infoweb.magi.com/~ericcote/mysetup.html
You'll find how to build one with parts needed + how to ADD GEAR
CHANGE button mounted on STEERING WHEEL.
Also i have done an extensive writing on setups in all aspects.

Also my main GP2 page is http://infoweb.magi.com/~ericcote/gp2menu.html

Good luck! Eric

Rev the engine until the first green light in the***pit begins to
flicker. Keep your revs steady do not increase or decrease the revs.
When the race starts,  keep the revs at the same point until first gear
is about 2/3 of the way to the rev range, then floor
it.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tony

C'mon Fernando, don't blame your bad starts on GP2, Jacques Villenueve
doesn't. The trick to making good starts in GP2, like everything else in
GP2 is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.  You've got to get the revs just
right, hit first then ease off the throttle if there's too much
wheelspin. Hit second early if you're still spinning.

I find the most success by leaving the car in neutral and holding the
throttle so that the last green indicator light flashes on and off.  When
the race starts I hold the same throttle position for a moment before
putting on full power in order to avoid wheelspin.  As John pointed out, if
there is a little wheelspin a short shift to second loses less time then
letting off the throttle until the wheels have grip again.

Regards,
Gian.

John, maybe I don't have all the skill needed for it, because even in
the 'amateur' level I don't jump to the first place all times. Don't
you think, then, this kind of difficulty should be left just to the
'pro' or the 'ace' level?

Also,  maybe you don't need adjust the revs at the beginning. Just put
1rs gear and press the throttle at green lights. Try it.

I'll sincerely be happy if someone prove that there isn't a bug in the
startings. Believe me, would be much better to me and to all other
fellows if the game was a pretty nice piece of software as advertised,
and myself was the one needing just to pratice in order to use it.

But it's not only my fault. Take a look in all mine and of other
people old postings. Remember that in many cases, after you get late
in a start, the game compensates for you (for purpose?) just slowing
down all cars to an absurd low speed at the first corner of several
circuits,  even with the cars going in the first places, as in Monza
for example.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe you'll want to send me a 'saved game' file, as an attachment,
showing how to make a good starting. I can send you -- and to anybody
else -- all files showing the bugs I have so much complained of in my
old posts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not really the one with much of authority to talk about startings
just because I'm not hearing the game's sound at all. Sometimes I go
to a buddy's home to use his computer, where I hear everything and
drive much faster and much better.

I would like to see the opinions of many other fellows about this
point (startings) and I sincerely apreciate your comment anyway.

Are you seriously suggesting that there is a bug in the software because
you can't accelerate as fast as the other cars??? I find it easy to at
least match the pace of the other cars off the starting line in ACE
difficulty and I have had some exceptional starts where I have reached
the first corner in first position after starting as far back as eighth?
on the grid (that was at Spain I think).

I agree....I have managed to jump several places on ocasion.  If you
wait till the RED light....hold the throttle about 'two green leds' with
the clutch/gear button held.  When the GO (green) lights, hit the
clutch.... back off the throttle slightly if you get wheel spin, depress
gradually to max throttle if no wheel spin. It works for ME!  ;-)

Jammer (UK)    ....GP2 rules, OK!
