NASCAR PSX-Calibration Question

NASCAR PSX-Calibration Question

by Steve Koont » Fri, 15 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Although the calibration for the Mad Katz lets you go the full 255 degrees,
I find myself hardly turning the wheel to get through turns.  I only use about
30 degrees of the wheel.  This makes holding lines and being precise very
difficult.  Is there any way to fix this?  I want to have the wheel at about
90 degrees through a turn (like the real NASCAR drivers).  When racing in
traffic the erratic wheel movement due to the touchiness makes staying out of
othere cars very difficult.  I can't imagine that Papyrus implemented analog
control this poorly, with only about 15% of the wheel's full 255-degree arc
being utilized.
Thanks

Steve

I do not have that PSX game but have the PC version of NC1.  In setup
there is a setup for the amount of steering degrees.  Could it be
possible that is in the PSX game???

There is a wheel lock feature in the PSX ver. the same as the pc ver.
Try decreasing the wheel lock till the car steers the way you want. I
was at a friends house the other day and he has the MAD KATZ wheel and
this is what we did. The car handles just like the pc ver.

Steve, this is not a problem with the software. It is a problem with the hardware.
With most, (I can't say all, as I haven't used all of them) commercial wheels,
you are driving the potentiometer directly, most potentiometers only turn about
7/8 of a turn. (look at a volume control on your stereo)
I have built a wheel with a gear drive to the pot, I have two full turns lock-to-
lock. Guess what? In Nascar Racing, I have 30 degrees of steering lock on all tracks
and the wheel is turned 90 degrees in the corner on most tracks.
Oops! I see you are not talking about the PC version...oh well should be the same.
