Spiking in GPL

Hi, I've gota weird prob with my GPL.  The steering and gas are spiking
quite considerably.  Yet in the control panel test, everything seems to be
in order, all nice and smooth.  Anyone know what's causing this?
ALSO, after formatting / reinstalling last time, I no longer have the
generic option.  I can click it, but when the calibration screen pops up,
they are all 'greyed' out, so I can only click ok, and then redo it with the
standard option (I forget the name).  This isn't causing the spiking
however, as I've been using non-generic mode for quite some time now, and
the spiking just started the other day.
Both the steering and gas started spiking at the same time, so I highly
doubt its the pots. (plus they're fine in the control panel like I said...)

Any help would be much appreciated, its too hard to drive!

are u running Dx7a?  try installing it if not, it will likely clear up
the problem.

I had the same problem after a reformat of my c drive (no generic
option) I had GPL on d drive.  Once i deleted gpl and reinstalled it i
got the generic driver option once more.

The Generic option will only work if you reinstall GPL.
The reason for this is that GPL copies some files to your system
directory, and registers them in the registry.

now that you mention it, I think I may have installed 'the sims' shortly
before the problem arose.... and I remember getting a direct-x question
during the install..
hmmmm....
thanx!
