Pre-ordered My Voodoo5...

Yesterday I pre-ordered a Voodoo5 card at 3dfx.com. I'm looking forward
to replacing the wheezing Canopus Voodoo 2 in my PII-400 with 128MB of
RAM and seeing GPL running  at 36fps at a resolution of 1024x768 with
full-scene anti-aliasing. I'll let you all know how it looks when I get
it. There was, however, no ship date listed at the site, just the
generic "6-8 weeks" time frame.

EB World has a date of May 25th, for whatever that's worth.

Generally....when you Pre-order from a manufactuer, you will receive
your product two to three weeks after the item hits the retail shelves.
I can't say about 3dfx but what usually happens is ALL the first
shipments go to several big retailers, then the medium and little fish
get the next shipments.  Usually to avoid displeasing retailers, the
manufacturer will hold back direct shipments of new products for a week
or two to make sure all the retail pipeline is filled.
Good luck!

I was a little pissed when I saw May 25th listed as a release date.  Wasn't
3Dfx touting April as a release date?  I also saw that the 5000 PCI isn't
due until June with the 6000 a few weeks after that (August maybe?).  Nvidia
is going to beat 3Dfx once again.  The only problem, I need a Voodoo to play
GPL!
