CPR: I finally tried the real game

Well know what? I found that it isn't as bad as I thought it would be
from playing the demo. I ran at Portland & Milwaukee with 12 cars,
max detail and draw ahead set to 15. Bad points:

1) What is really missing is tire temps ala the papy sims. It is totally
ridiculous to tweak a car just based on handling. Maybe this aspect
of the game is not modeled at all, so the long term effect is nil. That
     would not be good.

2) No damage to speak of and of course the impression I get
is the AI just drives right through you. I did check some replays
and it seemed like maybe some was my fault. I do remember
that the AI in World Circuit would take you out if you tried passing
     "in the wrong spot".

All in all my apologies for ragging on Randy so much. I find that I like
the game much more than I expected. And I have one point for Alison.
CPR did not***up my system :-)

FWIW, I have a P5-200MMX with 3dfx &32MB ram. All details are
maxed to the max :-) Full details in the mirrors is cool too...

Have you seen the mirrors in the Rendition version of Indycar2? They
look better than most other sims! I really liked these when I saw them
first.

Cheers!

Nope I purposely did not buy the Rendition, as the papy games would
really be the only supported games I owned. I held out for 3dfx :-)

I have a P166, 32mb, and Pure 3D(6mb 3dfx card), and if I have fall details
full with mirrors, etc. the game is a complete slide show. Somewhere in the
10-12 frames per second range. It is full screen, non-windowed, 3D
acclerated, I have the newest drivers for my card, etc., etc. It is not
anything wrong with my configuration because games like Ubisoft's F1 Racing
run just great with full detail. Same with Quake/Quake2, Need for Speed
IISE, Motoracer, POD, Jedi Knight, Longbow 2, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, and
G-Police.
All that eye candy might be nice, but its hardly worth it when a 6mb 3D
accelerator does almost nothing for it. What types of frame rates are you
getting with your detail set that high? Any info would be greatly
appreciated.

At milwaukee, with 12 AI cars, I was getting 25+ fps. At the start of the
race it was more like 12. Also on the main straight across the start/finnish
line I ge t15-16 fps. All in all not that bad IMHO. When it is running at
25+
fps it completely bolws GP2 out of the water. IMHO.

Methinks framerate is el-stinko. My PII/300 with 128 megs of SDRAM would
run 50-60's on the Nvidia Riva 128 chipset. And you know, the game still
looked like shit! I changed to a 3dfx card, framerate in the 20's to
30's, still looked like shit! I think a few people in this newsgroup are
pulling somebodys leg. Video card performance is a big part of my
business and it's pretty easy to tell when somebody is pulling a foolie.
        All the best, Mike Davis

Well I guess we will have to agree to disagree or something. I can run
milwaukee with 14 AI card with full detail (mirrors too) at 25+ fps. When
I go across the start/finnish it goes down to 16. At the start of the race
it
is about 15 fps (but that is also the start/finnish line). I have the draw
ahead set to 15 (minimum) and it is this setting which makes the
largest difference.

All in all I love the "feel" of driving this car. I like the way it goes
over the bumpy curves at Milwaukee. Once the patched version
comes out I think it will be fine. The framerate is not as much
of an issue as I thought it would be after trying the demo. But
CPR definately has a much better "feel" than ICR2 does. I
also think the graphics are better (I never tried the rendition
version). Also, the sensation of SPEED is great. So there :-)
