GPL- Ride hight

by Michael Barlo » Sat, 17 Apr 1999 04:00:00

This has been discussed before however not to my satisfaction
anyhow...

I just did a bit of testing with the ride Height..  I set the front
all the way up and did a few laps, then all the way down and did a few
laps.  I did the same for the rears. What I have found....

Front up rear down; Push on exit of corners with power
Front down rear down; Loose on exit of corners with power
Front up Rear up; loose entering a corner and neutral to push
exiting
Front down rear down; neutral entering and neutral to loose exiting

First.. is this what is supposed to be happening?
Second..  With both front and rear up I do laps around the Glen at
about 1:08. But with all the other settings Im running in the low
1:06s.  All these tests were done with 4 laps.

So, My question is.. what are the effects supposed to be for the
ride heights? and what are the actual effects in GPL (assuming my
driving is bad)?  The reason I ask is I'm starting to get the impression
that the physics in GPL are not, or even close to, the physics of the
real world.

GPL- Ride hight

The behaviour seems normal to me provided the spring, damper and
rollbar settings are not changed. See comments below

The rear has more weight and the front less giving more grip at the
rear and less at the front. When exiting a corner under power,
understeer (push) will occur.

Assuming you mean Front down rear up here. Oposite of above, more grip
at the front and less at the rear. When exiting a corner under power
the car will oversteer (loose)

Higher centre of gravity which will lower the cornering speed. Actual
effects during cornering will depend on the spring/damper/roll bar
settings

Lower centre of gravity which will increase the cornering speed.
Actual effects during cornering will depend on the spring/damper/roll
bar settings

With a higher centre of gravity and all other settings the same you
should expect to be slower.
