AWE32, F1GP and sounds in DOS box under Win95. How?!

Is there a special trick to getting sound from F1GP whilst running it
in a DOS box under Win95 (without using that noddy MSDOS compatibility
mode - I just want to play whilst doing something else without the
need to reboot Win95 afterwards)?

Currently I get no noise at all, despite having all 3 DOS drivers
loaded in CONFIG.SYS and CONFIG,DOS (which one is loaded by Win95?).

I can get noises under plain vanilla DOS however.

Stuart,
It sounds to me like you may have a problem with the way you Windows 95 is currently configured.  I am running F1GP under Win95
with the AWE32 with no sound problems.  The beauty of F1GP, compared to IndyCar Racing and NASCAR is that it CAN run under
Win95 WITHOUT having to revert to DOS mode.  Were you able to run F1GP under Windows before you upgraded to Win95?  The
trick is to get as many drivers loaded high as you possibly can before installing Win95.  My suggestion would be to uninstall Win95,
optime your memory below 640K with MEMMAKER and then reinstall Win95.  Under Win95, you are not even reading the
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS unless you are running a DOS sesson which should not be required with F1GP.  Another thing to
check is to verify that you have he latest AWE32 drivers which require less memory.

Knowing that it SHOULD work is extremely helpful. I just gave it
another go and it does work fine. I find that for some older games
that don't have any support for the AWE32 requires me to raise the
volume on my speakers quite significantly. I spent ages yesterday
trying to get sound in F1GP under normal DOS. I'd had it before, I
just couldn't figure out where it had gone ... the volume was too low!

Some of my problems might be down to the fact that I cannot run
Diagnose or AWEUTIL. Diagnose occasionally causes my AWE card to emit
random junk constantly. Only hitting the reset button on my PC will
clear this. This happens occasionally entering Win95. AWEUTIL sets
random reverb values which I don't trust either.

Thanks for the reply. I've just discovered Steering Help [Off].
Jeezo!!
