N99: DOS?

by L. Andre Min » Wed, 02 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hi All...

Bought and installed N99. However, I'm not convinced I've got a "pure
DOS" enviornment to run it in. I couldn't find a DOS install.exe file on
the CD to launch the install under DOS... so had to install thru Win95.
It appears that I have to start the sim thru Win95, but it does seem to
go to a DOS screen before the game begins. However, have I missed
something?  Is there a way to install/run from DOS?

Though it runs smooth enough on my system, there does seem to be a bit
of s slowdown at times that is NOT present on my pure-DOS N2/BGN sim.
Any input?

Thanks...

Apparently you can't run an install program from DOS, but from the Win95
installation, you can install the DOS .exe's (which is what I did).  The DOS
.exe's are the only way to get multiplayer right now anyway.

In my post, I was talking about Nascar 1999 (reffered to as N99) by
Sierra/Papyrus.  It uses the game engine from Nascar Racing 2 (i.e.
N2).  The later could be operated in a pure DOS envirornment, which
meant that you weren't tied to many of the background programs of Win95
that have an impact on game speed.

Anyrate, N99 seems to be installable from Win95, but I'd prefer a pure
DOS installation. Since my above post to RAS, I think I've figured out
what to do to install from pure DOS. So, I will wipe N99 from my hard
drive, and reinstall thru DOS when I have time.
