GP2 Linked Play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I start I would like to say that this is a great game when you play on your own PC
BUT..................... Linked play is awful.!!!

Yesterday my friend and I decided on a Non-Champ race at SPA.
My Machine is a P150 with 32mb EDO & Stealth 64
His P100 laptap with 32mb EDO. Video unknown.

We set detail to virtually nothing on both machine in VGA and the link speed to 19200. Direct Link.
frame rate to 19.2

The performance was terrible with intermittant hangs for a second or two.
Over the qualifying period we had two data mismatches just as He did a fast lap that would taken pole.  1.51.451 I think.

During the race we had so many hangs Link interrupts that we gave up after 24 laps.

We both work in the IT industry so have a very good idea what we were doing.
If the new game from Visiware "STARTING GRID??" is any good at then I am afraid
that GP2 is on the s***heap.

My friend and I play on P133's over a serial connection. We have
virtually no lags and frame rate set to 18.6 in SVGA. We do have most
detail turned off and we use the -use16550 switch. Minus the crappy
frame rate during the run  to the 1st  turn at the beginning of each
race, this game is extremely playable.

You might might to keep working on it.

>Great! Did you use the 'use16550' option when you ran gp2?

We both started the game with gp2 use16550. The only thing we can think of
is we were using two cables linked together. One a Null modem cable the other a serial cable.
This used to work fine in GP1.
The suggested frame rate was >25.6. we used 19.2. this was with VGA and not
SVGA. Trackside objects were set to LOW on my P150 and none on his P100.
I was getting processor occupancy of about 60-75% he was getting 70-85%.
Could this be a problem??
I think Geoff Crammand needs to take his code to someone like ID Software
and asked them to sort it out for him!....... For a couple of pints of beer of course!.
and a packet of Porkie Scratchings.

ID software, your kidding right?
They still havn't sorted out Quake's modem play mess.
You should have replaced ID with 3D Realm's :)
