Papy's Future?

Has Papyrus made any mention about what lies ahead for them?  With the start
of a new CART season, I'd really like to see someone pick up the torch and
release an open wheel sim.

> Has Papyrus made any mention about what lies ahead for them?

Yes.  Officially they announced during an interview that the next main
project would be an open-wheel racing sim with heavy multiplayer elements.
Unoficially, the next software will probably be an expansion pack for Nascar
Racing 4.

In all seriousness, Frank, I thought their open-wheel "announcement"
consisted of a chuckle and an admission that they would like to do
something like that.

I do know this much:  CART is definitely out as far as Papy is
concerned.  Midway holds the CART license though 2003, and that's
that.

Maybe F1?  More likely NASCAR, NASCAR, and more NASCAR, followed by
some NASCAR expansion packs, and then more NASCAR.

I saw in an interview that at one point, they modified GPL to try it in a
high downforce configuration, and they said that the result was "very
exciting". Thats all that they'd say about it however.

Hi!

Yeah, and it wasn't Papy but Mr David Kaemmer who said that.
Anyway, the full story can be read at High Gear:

Hey, IMHO, I'd LOVE to see an IRL sim if we can't get CART.  I just want to
have some damn open wheels instead of tin tops for once!

No IRL projects from Papy, either -- Infogrames is currently sitting
on the IRL and Indy 500 license (and not doing a damned thing with
it), which means that even though Papy has access to the Brickyard 400
license, there's no way they could do the Indy 500 at this point in
time.

Hey, Dan -- how does an IRL version of NASCAR Heat sound to you?  The
IRL Heat project is well underway, and we will be bringing you IRL car
shapes, paint jobs, and new Indy-style physics for NASCAR Heat.  The
cars aren't available yet because the physics aren't finalized, and
that won't happen until MGI releases the upcoming NASCAR Heat patch,
but that should be coming out soon (hopefully!).  Here's a preview of
what we've got happening on the IRL Heat project:

The BHMS site has offered to host a page for the IRL Heat project, so
once they get me set up, we'll have a dedicated place on the Web.  In
the meantime, enjoy the screen shots!

I want open-wheels to race on road courses, not ovals.  IRL would sell even
worse then GPL.  There is tons of other series (even fictional) that Papyrus
could create which would 1) be a better sim and 2) sell more copies.

Thank goodness. The IRL is a joke. Gotta be CART (out) or F1 (vintage,
hopefully).

Papy's Future?

well, all the news we are hearing from papyrus is pointing towards F1, CART
is a midway property, IRL is just too small nationaly and internationally,
F1 is high downforce and what David Kaemmer would probably like to get into
following his Barber Dodge years :)

I think Figure-8 chain trains rank ahead of the IRL on the progression list
of race series =)

I'd settle for a Can-Am or (historic) Trans-Am sim anyday!!  Hell even
Indy-lights would do it for me! :)

As long as its not a modern F1-sim - I'll buy it!  (Thats a promise Papy!)
