Hi all,

I have fixed the Homestead track (created with David Noonan's
ICR2&N2>GPL converter) so the cars don't appear as if they are
traveling through walls.  The solid surface now match the image you
see on screen!  Helps a lot to determine where the limits are!

The exact URL is:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/***world/gpl/utilities/hmstdfix.zip

Oh and don't forget to download Brian Fox's flagman fix, if you don't
already have it!

I am also currently working on other tracks, so stay tuned!  Watch our
news section for future releases!

Enjoy!

But does the overall track area remain the same?
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure I understand your question, but what I did is I moved the
physical definition of walls to fit the image, not the other way
around.  So the image you'll see is the same as it is right now,
except that walls are solid!

Well done, Francois! But the people without your fix have more track
to race on, if I understand correctly.

Hi Remco,

Thank you for the kind words!  You are right, those that don't use
that patch will benefit from a few feets of extra track.  But you know
there's always some way of cheating.  What's important is to decide
wether you want to have more realism and less chances for cheating, or
the other way around.

Some will argue that it is not cheating, well personnally all I can
say is I'm not cumfortable with driving thru walls to get better
times.  It makes ME feel like I'm cheating.  You know, I could've done
it the other way around and give more room outside from those walls,
but there's no point.

Those who want new tracks to have as much as possible the same quality
as the ones that came with the game will enjoy this patch.  Leagues
can use it and it'll be easy to track down those who don't use it.

About open online racing, I just hope Papy will include some sort of
checksum algorithm so you'd only be able to participate in a race if
you have exactly the same track file as the host.  GP2 does this, and
it even checks out the executable to see if it's the same on both
sides.  I think this is the way to go for fair online racing.

I was under the impression that you didn't need a track file to race it
online? I thought all the data came from the host. I guess this is my
explanation as to why with the European version you don't need the CD in
the drive to race online.

I don't think so, Graeme. That would be a huge amount of data for the host to send
to each client. I am also sure that if you haven't converted the track that the host
is racing on you get an error message saying something to the effect of "track not
available".

I am afraid you're wrong here. If your statement is true, and you host
for example the Nurburgring, every time a client connects, 13 Mb would
be sent from you to the client. Nice if you have a 33K6 modem. :-)

And why should GPL? Normally everybody has all the tracks.
