To quote Randy Cassidy :
"GPL automatically uses a faster steering ratio at low speeds (a faster
(numerically smaller) steering ratio causes greater front wheel deflection
for an equivalent amount of steering wheel rotation). This allows you to
get out of your pit stall, and navigate hairpin corners more easily. This
effect reduces as your speed increases, until reaching the steering ratio
defined by the setup you have on the car."
That effect is completely gone around 60mph he said also, and is really in
effect at speeds around 15mph (it goes up in I would speculate a
parabola/linear line until it is dissapeared around 50mph).
Whatever the situation if you have it enabled (which it is in GPL unless you
disable it on purpose) you will actually get more ratio because of that. I
suggest you increase your steering ratio in the garage menu, since that help
you have in GPL would make the hairpin turns and sharp corners -more- easy
to get through. Some of us prefer to disable it for the sake of realism.
If you want to disable the feature above, online you can do it on VROC when
you join a race (it's in the option tabs), or else in your core.ini by
adding this:
[ Hack ]
steer_ratio = 1 ; Enable low speed ratio override
(note, Im not 100% sure about the above setting)
For everybody else, there was some great stuff if you go to deja.com about
"GPL steering ratio". Even Doug Milliken posted a very informative message
about steering ratio.
