Looking for good Nascar 4 RACE setups

by James Pickar » Thu, 31 May 2001 13:08:28

I have just got a computer upgrade, and N4 now runs really well.  I'm
looking for some fast, drivable RACE (note I said race, not hotlap) setups
to run some longer distance races.

I used to use a guy called "MrFord"s setup in Nascar 3, and they were the
best out there.  Are there some similar setups around that are as fast, as
easy to drive and as easy on the tires around for Nascar 4??

Thanks..

James

What happened to going testing and learning to set the car up for
yourself?

I always thought that was as much fun as racing...

www.bhmotorsports.com is a good start, though I find myself tweaking them a
little bit. You will always have to tweak these for weather.

Good luck.

Some people can not do car setups.. myself included

I have been racing the Nascar titles for awile now, but even with some of
the awesome setup guides out there, I just can not make a setup.

Some people can drive, some can paint and some can do setups... some can do
all of the above, unfortunately I can only drive.. and that is even
questionable :)

Hi James,

www.setup-shop.com or www.team-lightspeed.com (I know, they have moved to
sprtplanet.com, but I don't have the URL at the moment and there ist a link...
:) ) have very good, stable and fast setups from Greger Huttu, Bob Stanley
(both veeery fast if you can handle them... hehe) and last not least Doug
Arnao which are nearly perfect. But you have to test them in longer races,
especially when the temp is very high e.g. you might to have to adjust tape.

I understand what you're saying. Maybe I'm a bit sad and obsessive...

I remember many moons ago I used to spar with a guy on CIX (Peter Gagg
if he's still around) on GP2, and remember the both of us on alternate
nights doing what we thought was the best lap possible, only for the
other to try a different direction on setup and go quicker still.

I think in the end he won that battle, but it was very interesting to
find new lines, new setups and more time in the track again and again.

The interesting thing was we were within a tenth or so of each other
all the time, with completely different setups - and the telemetry
readouts showed completely different speeds. As I recall I was later
on the brakes and earlier on the throttle, whereas he carried more
speed overall. We're talking about minimal amounts though...

Thinking back, we were (and probably still am) among the top 10 or 20
on the net on all tracks except Monza - where I was always rubbish - a
second or so away from the fastest times.

Anyway - I'm wandering off here so I'll shut up :-)

Everybody doesn't HAVE setup skill.  I've been trying since Indy500, and it's
NOT happening.  Somewhere around N3, I gave up...
