GPL vanished from my hd

Most of GPL has vanished from my hard disk,
including the exports directory (gone are my pb's)
the tracks and cars I'd installed, modifications
to original tracks, tools I had in the gpl directory...
but not some things such as set ups, original tracks
or the intro avi. (?)

I can only remember two things I did before this
happened: install and test GRE and trying to
uninstall the sierra utilities which I'd never used.
The uninstaller said it had done its job, but the utilities
are still there.
(and I also installed F1 2000 before the disaster, was that
a softmicidal reaction out of program envy?)

anyone has an idea about what could delete the GPL files?

sounds like the Sierra Utilities removed your gpl instead of
themselves.  I try to NEVER use the Sierra utils except for the initial
install, and I also do NOT use the auto-update.  We can do these things
ourselves with just a bit more safety....as jgoi has found out.

Boy, did I regret when I hit that OK button to remove Sierra utilities
several months ago!  I had two copies of the utilities and wanted to remove
one of them . That stinking software deletes everything under Sierra
directory, including directories you might have created.  No warning, no
second chance.  I feel your pain :)) Your only option is to reinstall
everything.

rying to

Yikes, kiss it goodbye. you are now a GPL newbie again!

My guess is someone drove a pick'emup truck through  _one_ of them gapping
security holes in your so-called "O.S.", loaded up them thangs and hauled
ass outta thar.
