Could you explain what the "dealer invoice" price is?  Is it the
price the dealer get it from the manufacturer/import at or does
it already include profit for the dealer?

Dealers, employees, etc. get the cars at invoice - cost.  Retail - what
you or I would pay for them at the dealership - is with the mark-up.

:
: When is the best time to purchase an Accord EX V6 Coupe? ... if you have
: an idea when?  Then only thing is my car is doing fairly well.  I hate
: for it to overheat in this hot West Palm Beach, FL this summer.
:
: I sort of figure this guy was trying to get me to buy now.  In fact,
: he told me expect a call from him on tommorrow.  Another slash in the
: price I hope.  $1800 over dealer invoice sounds steep to me, too.  He
: claim they have no hidden rebates or incentives because it devaluates
: the car ... an Honda policy. (hmmm!)
:
: Maybe, I need to waive that $5000 - 6000 down payment in his face a
: little more.  But I still want buy 'til the end of May or June, though.
:

Wait a few more months. The Camry coupe (Solara) is due soon, and it
should put some serious pressure on Accord coupe sales. If you don't
mind four doors, get yourself a Maxima SE. They are selling poorly right
now.

the best time to buy is in August or January and February and the last
day of the month about 1 hr before closing time. This puts the pressure on
them to deal because these are slow months and the last day of the month
is all they have to meet the manufacturers` quota.

I recently bought a V6 Accord Coupe EX in White...and I went through
EXACTLY the same dealer hoopla that you are going through.  Basically,
there is a shortage on the V6's in the coupe.  The first few dealers I went
to
visit told me 4-8 weeks for delivery..if at all.  I drove a hundred miles to
another,
larger dealer and they had 3 on the lot and claimed they could get any one
that I wished in 2days to 2 weeks.  I think it all depends upon the dealer
you
visit.  I spoke with Honda of America to let them know of the problems I was
facing when trying to buy one, and they attributed the problem to sheer
shortage of the V6.  They reassured me that I would see delivery pick up
in the coming months as they are converting a Honda plant in Japan into
a V6 assembly plant.

As for price, it definitely is the case that a dealer should give you a
better deal
on a car that he hasn't had a hold of for too long.  This would definitely
apply
to having to order a V6.  Keep on them....if they want to sell it bad
enough, they
will deal.  If not, go elsewhere.  If you want, I will tell you where I
bought it...

Good luck!

Chris

:

August: just before new models come in. Pressure to clear inventory. Lots
of promotions and rebates. Hell if I had waited 1 more week to buy my car
(July 24) I could have gotten free oil changes for a year.

January/February: Sales are slow in winter months. Most people are paying
of Christmas bills and are not in the mood to buy cars. For certain cars
that are class leaders (i.e. Taurus, Camry, Accord), manufacturers may try
to boost sales in late December to shore up sales figures for the calendar
year and make claims like: Camry #1 car in America for '97, etc...

I don`t know where you live so I can`t speak for popular custom in your
area. But up here most people go on holidays in August so dealers are not
selling any cars ,so their incentive to deal is greater.Up here January
and February are the coldest, meanest months of the year, and the last
thing on anyones` mind is to go out in the snow and cold to check out new
cars, and ,as well, everyone has spent all their money at x-mas so sales
are pretty slow at this time of year.More incentive for dealers to cut a
deal.

Please, this thread was grossly cross-posted and doesn't belong in
rec.autos.simulators.  So please removed this group in the Followup-To
line.

Thanks.  You see we are just a poor lot here in r.a.s. and can't afford
real cars and all this talk is really making us feel a little
inadequate.

No he is saying a V8 would be better than V6 is concerned at
trade in time.  Hondas, espcially, V6s hold great value. But
muscle car fans would put a V6 Camaro on a Prelude or Accord
anytime, no contest.  Don't mention the Z28.
