98 Honda Accord; Truth or Dare?

Hi,

I want to purchase a V6 Accord Coupe EX.  This is a very nice car for
comfort, resale, etc.  I just left an Honda dealer that my car club,
AutoVantage, recommended me to.  AutoVantage recommended me to pay
dealer invoice + $1800.00 for the car.  The salesman offered me
$23645 without no extra options, and he also stated that it would take
a month and 1/2 to get my Black V6 in.  This is about $110 more than
what AutoVantage recommended, it seems like a decent price.  But I
still don't want to pay this much, in fact I want give $200 over
invoice. I was hoping my $5000-$6000 down payment may stroke interest,
I guess not.

Maybe I made a mistake of mentioning AutoVantage.  Because he went and
checked how much the recommended paying.

Would I be missing a good deal?  Should I just step down to
the V4? Or should I just go get that fully loaded, t-top, V6 Camaro
that I have been longing for for so long.  In fact, I can't easily beat
the price of the Accord by purchasing a Camaro with this $1500 rebate
and 1.9-5.7% financing they have going on, now.

Now, I can wait and save a little more money and purchase the V6, but
the dealer said they may not be any available in the next month or so.
Is this a "truth or dare" scam?

What do you think of all this?

Seems a little steep. Figure the dealer is getting a 2 percent holdback
right off the MSRP for starters, even if you pay dealer invoice. Kick in a
couple hundred bucks over invoice to keep the salesman fed. $1800 over
invoice??? Ouch! Is this car in short supply? I wouldn't think so, the
Accord is the original belly button car. Maybe there is something I don't
know...

When did Honda start making a v-4 car engine? I know they make v-4
motorcycle engines but this is a new one on  me.!

If you can wait, wait. The dealer only wants you to buy the car, NOW.
Don't. He might say the special deal won't last long. If you can wait,
let it slip. Who knows maybe next month's special deal is sweeter. Car
deals can only become sweeter as the car ages away from its initial
introduction. Now is not the best time to buy a new 98 Accord, if you
are looking for good deals.

The accord V6 is in high demand, I believe(read about it in the
chicago Tribune). That being said, we did manage to buy an Accord V6 LX
for my grandmother for a little less than 1800 over invoice (maybe
1000-1500 over).  The 4-cyl is not in such high demand though and you
could probably get it for closer to invoice..

Opt for the v8 too! You'll be happier along the way and even happier at trade
in time.

Thanks GO SUV,

When is the best time to purchase an Accord EX V6 Coupe? ... if you have
an idea when?  Then only thing is my car is doing fairly well.  I hate
for it to overheat in this hot West Palm Beach, FL this summer.

I sort of figure this guy was trying to get me to buy now.  In fact,
he told me expect a call from him on tommorrow.  Another slash in the
price I hope.  $1800 over dealer invoice sounds steep to me, too.  He
claim they have no hidden rebates or incentives because it devaluates
the car ... an Honda policy. (hmmm!)

Maybe, I need to waive that $5000 - 6000 down payment in his face a
little more.  But I still want buy 'til the end of May or June, though.

When supply roughly matches demand of the car. Right now it is a hot seller,
and the dealers could sell every single one of them they ordered, without
one sitting on the lot waiting for potential buyers. The dealers could do
anything they want to get the most $$$ out of every buyer. They can even
tell you to leave if you are not interested in paying full MSRP.

After the heat cools off, and the dealers start to have cars sitting and
collecting dust on the lot, it is a good time to bargain. I have no idea
of how long this time will come. Just check out your local dealers
regularly.

I got my 98 Accord Coupe EX V6 (Black Currant Perl) last month for $23000
total dirve out price including mud guards, mats and pinstripes. From what I
can tell they are not in short supply here in central Georgia.
