GPL: Is Silverstone too easy??

Hmm on my second ever race at Silverstone I managed to put my Lotus on
the front row with a mid 91sec.  I haven't come close to this in any
other circuit.  Since then I have run a mid 90 second.

Is Silverstone an easy circuit?

Second race?!?  How many practice laps have you done?  I'd say you're pretty
good.  However, I haven't qualified on pole yet, and I've had the game over a
year...

I've been playing sims for 11 years or so.  Staring with Indy 500 -
The Simulation (very ***ive back then... if I had a dime for
everytime I tried to start dead last and get to 10th by the end of lap
one..i'd be rich)

It just takes a lot of practice I guess.  Plus I like Silverstone.  I
liked it in GP2.

Bwahahahaha!!

Sorry...  Silverstone drives me nuts!!!  I don't know if it's the lack
of a rich field of trackside objects (like Monza or Watkins Glen) or
the lack of elevation changes, but I am ALWAYS turning in too late!
My principle skill developed at Silverstone is to be able to drive
most of the length of the Hangar and Farm straights in the grass
without spinning as I normally go off the outside of the corners that
enter them.

No, I don't feel Silverstone is particularly easy...

I don';t think its unrealistic from my experiences but back in the '60's the
track was much more "simplified" to drive so not too many challenging
corners.

I think Silverstone is just about the "easiest" circuit in the game to
beat the AI because of the nature of some of the turns.
The quick left-hand flicks lead on to straights and you can get through
those much quicker than AI cars seem to be able to, and so gain a lot of
time.

I for one would sure appreciate it if one of our resident graphics
wizards would come up with a brake marker patch for Silverstone.

Says YOU!<g>
The lack of discernable brake markers usually has me missing those 'quick left
hand flicks', and ending up on the grass on the exit.  I just can't see the
track well enough.  The only way for me to consistently make the corner is to
go too slow to make up any time...

I've been playing for longer than you...Accolade Grand Prix was a year earlier
than I500, I think.  I *still* don't think Silverstone is easy.  I don't seem
to have enough brake markers, so I leep turning in late...  Pole position?  In
my dreams... :)

Typically go back the black markings on the pavement.  There are a
several times at Silverstone when these black markings won't help you.
With Club (T6R) you'll have to get on the brakes as soon as the large
signs on the left disappear from sight.  Abbey is a weird turn...
there is a tendancy to go too fast here.  But I think going down to
third gear and taking it easy is the best approach... a good exit is
better than ending up in the haybale.

You should be overly aggresive at Maggots (T2L).  You can overcook the
turn but it's easy to recover.  I usually just tap the brakes and a
slight jerk of the wheel left.

That's strange.
I got pole position at Silverstone on my first attempt too.
Can't even get close on the other tracks.

Me too,
Silverstone is very difficult for me.  Abbey especially, I never know
exactly where to turn in.  When I get it right, it is very satisfying,
but its by luck more than anything else.

Yeah I played Accolade Grand Prix as well.  I remember being overly
e***d about running a 53 at Monaco.

Download a few replays of Silverstone and you'll run a low 90 in no
time.

I didn't get pole position on my first attempt there.  Was on the
front row.

It took me 4 attempts to get the pole :)
