The hardware is more powerful, but GT3 looks better.

Gotham is a good game, but GT3 had years in development with unlimited
resources, and it shows. The detail and polish in the lighting, for
example, make the overall game look much much better than Gotham.

The gameplay, in my opinion, is also better in GT3. I love driving
games of all kinds but got bored with Gotham real quick.

Not so. You buy it, they make one more. The more they sell, the more
money they lose. Great business model huh?

Yeah, but they make it up on volume (as the old joke goes).

Agreed, GT3 is a beautiful game.  Pity it doesn't come in a multiplayer
version.

I agree - but I'm told that multiplayer is the focus of GT4. Happy
happy joy joy!

That's what I thought...but then you'd think GT4 would come out this summer,
to lend some firepower to next month's online rollout (now to be supported
only by SOCOM: Navy SEALS, as near as I can tell), but no, GT4 isn't even on
the radar.  The earliest it'll be out is *next* summer, apparently.  I asked
Sony why, and they said 'cuz GT3 is selling so well.  Yeah, I countered, but
no MP!  They looked at me like I was stoned.

I would say both games are equally good for diffrent reasons. PGR is about
street racing in real city's, with several gamplay options ( racing,
timetrials, Kudos mode is about showing off for points.) while GT3 is about
racing on real race tracks and some ability to tune cars that PGR doesn't
have.

But I would suggest the Xbox overall, for in about 45 days SegaGT 2002 will
be out for it, and looks to be the new king of console racers. Here is a new
Divx movie (I had to use Divx player to view it) of SegaGT..
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?http://www.computerandvideoga...

So with Xbox you can have both SegaGT and PGR, which looks like a tough
combo to beat. Plus there is a good Xbox racer called Rallysport Challenge
if offroading is your thing.  With Xbox you get a harddrive for replay
storage and game updates, plus built in ethernet for eventual mutliplayer
action.. things you prolly wont see from Sony until PS3 comes out.

More likely it's because Polyphonic has so much clout that they can
tell Sony "It'll be done when it's done. Go away."

That's what seemed to happen with GT3, and is why it wasn't a launch
title. And why it WAS so highly polished - I dream of having the
Polyphonic luxery to finish a game at my leisure!

Apparently, GT4 is going to have all the cars that were lost in the
transition from GT2 to GT3 (due to time constraints) and that is the reason
for the delay.
