The programming of the mod probably has a lot to do with it looking so real
but your system specs are probably really helping too.  ;-)

(OH Santa please bring me a 9700 this year !!!)

Whoa there, unless a new '67 sim comes out I wouldn't count on it. =)

I deleted all of the tracks that weren't used in the championship for
the GT mod (well, and the rest of the F1 content...).  That leaves 7
stunning tracks that are pretty accurately modelled, and 3 of the
lesser flawed original tracks.  Silverstone and Spa aren't too bad,
and Magny Cours is ok except for the second set of esses (which, for
some reason, are completely flat) and the incredibly odd pit
entrance/last turn.

Just did some laps at Spa in the Lister.  Eau Rouge flat-out is
properly scary and a very nice threading the needle moment, even with
the neutral/tight default setup.  Of course, if you set up the car so
it actually turns everywhere else on the track, you can kiss the
backend goodbye coming over the hill. =)

Ack.  Silverstone is very bad.  It's not "I won't race there it's so bad
like the A1-Ring" bad, but ISI should really put some efforts.  How hard can
it be? :(        Spa is average, yeah.  It's just that the track builders
give themselves too much freedom, and start putting stuff or changing stuff
to their free willing.  They see an empty spot, and try to "fill it" so that
it doesn't look empty even if it's really empty in real life (well empty as
in, a forest or an elevation that looks into the sky for the most part).
They change the layout because they think it will fit the filling space they
aren't sure of.

ISI seriously only has the track to do and the multi for the most part.
It's pretty much put down now.  We can edit everything else (including the
physics).

But there is ABSOLUTELY no connection between them and us.  No communication
whatsoever :(

The track camber is really off, but that's a problem with about every sim
that tries to model Magny-Cours.  Even F1RC.

Doug, there's no such thing as Santa, you better buy one.  Ah, I'm just
pissed because Santa isn't bringing me a 9700.  Bah-humbug! ;0)

I don't think so. I think they are proud that their physics engine are
capable of doing this, and that the system is open and can be edited. EA did
share technical information about the new formats with simbin even before F1
2002 was released. And the F1 cars might not be as good as we wish because
of limited time, or the ones that makes decisions at EA might have been
thinking that F1 2002 would not sell more if the car modeling was refined,
so why spend more man-hours? That doesn't mean that the individual
programmer should feel ashamed, they delivered a fine product. The physics
model is probably good because the programmers take pride in their work, and
because their bosses don't have full insight into what exactly they are
doing and what's necessary (for good sales) and not, early in the process.
:)
I think it's outstanding that they have made such a fine sim.
After all the market is kids, grandparents (gift for kids), a few grown up's
that drive a few laps twice a year, and a tiny group of serious simracers.
But netcode would be fine.....

Ditto on this one; GTR2002 is good because the game engine allows it to be,
and you have ISI to thank for that.  Commercial developers and publishers
have a lot more on the line than groups like SBDT, and have a lot broader
market to serve.  All you really need to do is compare NT2003 to GTR2002 to
see the result.  Kudo's to ISI as well as SBDT.
