What happened with Ubisoft?

THey wrote *** emails to a website saying "Take down the modifications for
our game please"

Every went "Boooo Hiiisss"

Then it's revealed that the website was technically on UbiSoft webspace

So it was in breach of their FIA contract.

HOWEVER

Mistakenly people believe that the FIA is to blame

The FIA have already sold the licence to many people - and they can come
BACK to the FIA and complain that people are free-lancing over the top of
their licences.

Anyway - it's all a load of toss, the fact that Ubisoft didn't ask nicely,
or that the website didn;t give us the full story means that no-one has a
clue whats actually going on...but it MIGHT be the trigger for a wider
pattern of mod-culling

Very unlikely.  These companies know that its the mod sites that make these
sims a success, so they are not likely to put a stop to them.
In fact Ubisoft have been to date one of the more open companies, see what
happened with MGPRS2 in particular.  They didn't have a pukka licence and
used silly made up names for circuits and drivers but made the code
sufficiently open to allow mods more or less from the word 'go'.
