GPL, NO!NO!NO!!!!!

by Stev » Tue, 01 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Sorry about reposting this, but I'm desperate :)
I'd like to point out that I HAVE already done the weird windows 98 stuff to
get GPL to work (it didn't run at all until I tried that), my problem is
that the sound is STILL garbled. I know theres at least one other person out
there with this problem and surely someone has found a way round it?

Now for the original post.....

*
First, the only differences between my system since when it did work and now
are win98 and a Diamond MonsterSound.

The sounds are garbled, BUT, before you all hastily reply telling me to
reduce the number of sound effects, I know about this, I have it down to 3
(as low as it will go) and the sounds still come out garbled. The game is
also running REALLY badly (i.e. very choppy framerates) which I believe is
related to the sound issue. Can anybody help me with my problem?
*

btw since this post I tried disabling my sound card from within windows, and
the game runs at its proper speed, however my joystick port is on my
soundcard, and as I'm sure you all know, trying to drive with the keyboard
is an exercise in futility :)

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Steve,
Not to sound like a broken record, but Win98 sucks. Most IT departments
won't upgrade to it or support people on staff that do it themselves. In network
circles it is pretty commonly known as a dog. I would just reinstall Win95 OSR2
and get back to playing sims. Is there really any major reason to run 98? Do you
use the mutiple monitor option? If not, then quite beating yourself over the
head and reinstall. There's my two cents, all the best, Mike

I am trying to solve the same sound/frame-rate problem.  The only similarity
I see is that we both are using V1000 with Voodoo2.  I wonder if the others
with this problem have the same video cards?  Could that be the
problem/conflict?

I think that problem is due to w98/creative labs problems
I ahve that problem and my config is

        Creative voodoo 2
        AWE 32
And w98 of course

WIndows 98 doesn't suck it's made for real computer users people that know
what the hell they are doing if you leave it alone it works fine
I have it and nothing has gone wrong I know of about 35 people that have it
not one problem but you read this newsgroup and people say it sucks it's
because you don't know what you are doing and you mess with things anyway
and you know who you are.

Blayne
PS I installed the GPL on WIndows 98 and it worked fine from the begining

Does Win98 support puncuation?

The problem I hear about Win98 is that it places you into a hypnotic
trance leading you not to buy Macs and not to puncuate sentences...Is
this true?  ;)

"real" computer users?

as opposed to those of us using OSR2.1 for *** and *nix for work?

Win98 is nothing more than a glorified plus pack.  anyone who thinks that it is
the end all-be all of operating systems is either scared shitless of a command
line, a l33t w4r3z d00d, or has used nothing other than win98 preinstalled on
the prefabricated boxed system their mommy just bought them from best buy.

have a wonderful evening

AHAA! I just disproved this one, cos I am using an ET6000, VOODOO1 and a
MONSTERSOUND. Completely different config, same problem. Oh well, back to
the drawing board :)

Good luck everyone

Eh?...So which is it?  Do they or don't they know?...I'm dying to find
out.

I see you're into punishment.

I've always have been curious of how much it costs to build your own
computer...I mean, what about keeping the lab clean while splitting
the chips, not to mention all that oxide...Does it bother you that
Tiawan can build systems cheaper than the cost of a pair of tennis
shoes, or do you have a factory in Tiawan?
