I have tried several games on the emulator and they have
all worked fine. I haven't tried Driver 2, though. Over on
the ePSXe forums, I bet someone could tell you and they
may even have a compatibility list.

You may want to give Ridge Racer 4 a try. It is VERY fun on
the emulator. Also, TOCA/Jarrett-LeBonte Racing is just great.

GT2 is good old-fashioned fun isn't it.

And ***ive, so be careful .. :)

Yup, I never had a console so it's great to be able to see what I
missed :)
I do have one problem though, maybe you can help me: I have a -huge-
deadzone on the x-axis with my Momo. I really have to turn the wheel
completely to the left or right before it begins to steer.
I'm not sure if it's a deadzone problem or that the steering is
digital instead of analogue.. I did select digital/analogue in the
gamepad config option..

Oh, and I don't have music during the intro, is this normal?

I have a PS2 and I can assure you that the DualShock 2 is completely
analogue. Using the pad with GT3, you can hold the car on the revs you
want on the start line by varying the pressure on 'X'. In DropShip, if
you press the throttle button in *real* hard, you engage afterburner.
In Madden NFL 2002, if you watch a replay, you can adjust how fast you
skip through it by varying the pressure on the shoulder buttons (light
press - slow motion; hard press - fast forward; and a smooth speed
increase in between).

I didn't know that all of the buttons were pressure sensitive. I have never
seen anyone mention this before except for the shoulder buttons. I stand
corrected and I apologize for my confusion.

The deadzone problem I'm having seems to be caused by the emu itself,
since the forums are crowded with people having the same problem with
all sorts of wheels.
I tried different emu's, since for other emu's all sorts of
joystick-plugins have been written. Unfortunately ePSXe doesn't
support these joystick plugins yet.

Bleem doesn't seem to support GT2. Black screen after the intro.
A couple of other emu's do support GT2, but with all kind of gfx and
music errors, and a poor fps.

The best emu I found so far is Connectix Virtual Game Station (VGS).
This emu is so freaking good that Sony bought it and immediately
discontinued this emu, to prevent losing sales of the PS1.
But with google it's easy to find a copy.
VGS didn't need any configuration to run: Run VGS, insert the GT2 cd
and it worked flawlessly. Even the music worked during the intro!
The disadvantage of VGS is that you can hardly configure anything: You
can't improve the gfx like you can with ePSXe. It does support
joysticks, but only the old PS1 joysticks, without the analogue stick.

Still, if you want to use a wheel with GT2, so far I think VGS is the
best solution. There are a lot of mods for these emu's out there, I'll
post here if I find an even better solution to run GT2 with a wheel.

Deadzone problems...yeah, me too.  My wheel only has a 180 travel and yet I
seem to have a 160 deadzone!  ..kind of fun reefing the wheel from side to
side just to make minor corrections though ; )

Yup, I really don't like those analogue playstation controllers with
those 2 little sticks, I want to play GT2 with a wheel.. Haven't found
a fix so far :-/

hi Andre,

There is a version of bleem that works with GT2.  Version 1.6b.
Not sure if it addresses the controller deadzone issues.
I'm sure you'll be able to locate it.

Regards all,

Yep, they're all quite analog.

Oh, one more thing worth mentioning - the two sticks are actually buttons as
well.  I didn't realize this until I first played GTA3 and kept looking for
"L3" and "R3"...

Ah, thanks for the tip! I tried version 1.5b, but that one doesn't
work with GT2 (at least I couldn't get GT2 running with it).
It's a bit hard to get a working copy of 1.6b, especially since Bleem
is as dead as a doornail, but I'll give it a shot :)

I just D/L epsxe and can confirm that Driver 2 runs on it. I had some
graphical issues in the menu, but the game was perfectly fine (if a
little fast for what I am used to). The menu problem is probably due
to me not bothering to configure anything - literally 5 minutes
between clicking the downloads and playing the game.

Ok, I gave up on fixing the wheel/deadzone problem, and I bought a
rumblepad for $40. Works perfect, to my surprise even the 'force
feedback' works. Thanks again for the suggestion Ed, having a -blast-
here, been a long time since I had so much pure fun with a game :)

BTW, could you post the settings you use? Especially the gfx settings.

Cheers,
Andre
