Question about bringing painted *.pcx files into paintcar

by T Bo » Tue, 27 Feb 1996 04:00:00

O.K., whenever I try to custom paint a car *.pcx file (using Corel
Photo Paint 5+) and I bring it into Paintkit, nothing matches, and it
seems like the existing colors are reversed (inverse).
What's the deal? Is this because Paintkit uses "almost"-but not 256
colors ? If so - how can I fix this?
Also , does anyone know where I can get some new font *.pcx files.

                Any help would be appreiciated.

You need to use the same pallette that the paintkit uses while
you're painting cars - there's a .pcx file in the paintkit\ subdir
of icr2 called ipal.pcx with the pallette you need.  You're only allowed
to use the colors that appear on the paint pallette in the paintkit
itself, however - if you use others various sorts of weirdness may
occur while painting or playing.  I suppose your current problems are
related to Corel messing with the pallette when you save the .pcx files
you edit - hopefully there's a way to avoid this!

                Hope this helps,
                        Josh.

I think you just mean "wrong", but anyway...

More or less, yeah.

I'm using Paint Shop Pro 3 and I've found the best way is to remap the
PCX to a palette I created from one of the scicon.pcx files. Mind you, it
may not work with Photo Paint, I don't know.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure nobody even bothers making them.
You've got Photo Paint, surely there's some way to add a decent TTF font
to your pics with that?

If you have Win95, the Paint program in there will do just fine for painting, cut and
paste scan graphics, ect.  You will have to use another program to convert the .bmp
to a .pcx, but those aren't hard to find...
